2008 Pontiac G6 Sedan Questions & Answers
My 2008 Pontiac G6 is showing a emission evaporative large leak. How bad is that?
You most likely need a new evaporative purge valve. Besides the engine light, another symptom is hard starting after filling with fuel, because the filling makes lots of strong fuel vapor in the tank and that gets sucked into the manifold, causing an overly rich mixture. Also, if you ignore this problem for a while, your catalytic converters will be ruined, which is a very expensive problem, that I discovered the hard way.The valve is located at the firewall side of the engine behind the fuel injection. It has 2 hoses and a plug. If you disconnect the hose which goes to the fuel tank (the passenger side one) and start the car, and put your finger on the hose nipple, you should feel no vacuum. If you do, the valve is bad. I bought mine online for about $32, free shipping. I think from Amazon. They wanted $60-$68 at the parts stores, and they were out of stock. The vacuum hoses are kind of hard to remove. There is a tang you have to work with. This is the part I ordered:http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00JW1WZXS?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00Make sure you put it on the right way round. I first had it backwards and the hoses are hard to get off again.
My 08 pontiac g6 coupe is a lemon
jeff has the answer
talking with a dealer is pointless so take the problem straight to the head office of the manufacturer
it is a lemon so check out the laws on purchasing especially the clause that says --unfit for the purpose and clear expectations when purchasing - you may have to engage the services of a lawyer with experience in this area
be clear in your requirement --full refund on all money spent in the purchase -- not a fix all the time solution
I would personally go to a different manufacturer that has a reputation of producing cars that last well after the warranty period
I need to know where
Hello: Check the fuse box under the hood, there should be a diagram on the inside of the cover to show where the fuse is located in the box.
Engine power reduced, service traction
when you have the fault codes read to find the exact sensor failure or cause , have it fixed then reset the ecm as the ecm will reduce the performance(limp mode) for safety reasons
Remove dash panel 2008 g6 pontiac
Preparation
- Have the car's air conditioning system discharged at the dealer's service department or at another shop with a licensed air conditioning technician.
- Drain the engine coolant at the radiator, opening the drain fitting at the bottom of the radiator and the cap on the reservoir and letting the coolant pour into a large container.
- Disconnect the battery's negative cable, loosening the cable clamp nut with a socket or crescent wrench.
Trim Covers
- Place the transmission in Neutral (you need to press the brake pedal with the ignition switch on), then pull the center trim panel rearward on the bottom. Pry the panel's clips off as you move upward and and remove the panel.
- Pop the triangular-shaped hazard flasher switch out of the instrument panel -- you can reach the back of the switch and push it out once you remove the center panel -- and unplug the switch's electrical connector.
- Tilt the upper steering column cover up and release the four lock rings to remove the upper cover. Remove the three fasteners for the lower cover -- you need a screwdriver with a hex socket -- tilt the column lever down and remove the lower cover.
- Remove the three screws for the instrument cluster bezel with a Philips screwdriver and pry the bezel loose.
- Pry off the trim panels at the sides of the instrument panel with a trim stick or similar dull, flat-bladed tool. Unscrew and remove the cover at the bottom of the panel with the screwdriver.
- Open the small cover on the A-pillar trim panels, remove the ***** within the cover using your Philips screwdriver and pry off the panels with the trim stick. Pry around the upper trim panel and remove it.
- Remove the fasteners for the knee bolster below the steering wheel with the screwdriver -- you may also need to remove the data link connector by pressing its side tabs and disconnecting it -- and remove the panel.
- Open the glove box and remove the mounting screws at the top corners of the compartment using the Philips screwdriver to remove it.
Main Panel
- Disconnect the heater hoses and the refrigerant lines from the firewall using pliers and/or a wrench (a socket wrench may work best). Plug the fittings to block contaminants from entering.
- Unbolt the heater module at the dashboard plate's front end using the socket wrench.
- Disconnect all of the electrical connectors on the instrument panel. Pry off all the
- switches from the panel using your trim stick.
- Slide both of the front seats all the way to the rear.
- Remove the two mounting fasteners for the steering column -- these will likely require the hex-socket screwdriver -- and let the column rest near the floor.
- Unbolt the panel's center support bracket from the floor with your wrench.
- Remove the mounting fasteners at both ends of the instrument panel with the wrench/Philips screwdriver and pull the panel away. Disconnect any remaining electrical connectors that were previously concealed and remove the panel.
