SHIFT NOT WORKING AND BRAKE LIGHTS WENT OUT AT THE

i don't mind shouting, I'm old school , from days of caps only terminals and teletypes ASR33s , CAP ON. Viet Nam,...... etc....i have only questions, I'm retired now.. and can help.what transmission< A/T or M/T? i drive M/Ts, what do you drive.?shifter lever not working.? the key word here is "Lever".does that mean the lever is stuck , or the A/T fails to shiftautomatically from, 1st to 2nd. my guess is lever.ok , i think you have A/T and on A/T cars the brake lightswitch is the logical permissive, to shift out of PARK ,them meansif the brake switch is bad or not adjusted correctly theA/T park lock circuits fail. You can say, my car is stuck in PARK and we all know what that means. on most SUZ, cars, thereis shift console defeat switch, for this lock soleniod , inside..on many its lower left corner of console shifter base next to your seat.the cars operator guide in the glove box (free from suz dealer)and tells you all this, driving car with out that free book is problematic, they say.no, the tail lights are not brake lights.they are 2 independent systems, if you need a full shop manual its here.http://www.scantool.net/software/alldata-diy-1-month-subscription.html

most cars its very close to the thermostat, in fact below it.it has more then 1 pin.use any scan tool to see the output of the ECTif last night was say 40f, then in the morning the ECT reads 40f(just key ,no start you can read it ,hood closed.)then start engine, and let it warm up 100% (drive 10miles works best) then it must read 180F or more. and HOLD there all times running.. if not ?you have cooling system failure.

My 07 suzuki forrenza will not shift out of park

My wife had 2007 suzuki forenza with the same problem , I look it over, the problem was the brake light switch. I Bought a new one at suzuki dealer in orlando for $15.10 part # 37740-86z21 and replaced it my self , it took less than 5 munites to replace.works great now.The reason the gear would not shift out of park is that the brake switch has to send a signal to the relay switch on the gear shifter to remove the shift lock .If this switch is not working it can not send that signal to the relay.Another way you can tell it is the brake light switch is that your rear brake light would not work .You can also bypass this and use your car until you get the brake light switch , here how .look at your gear shifter and locate a small oval shaped cut out (it may have shift lock written next to it ).take a small flat screw driver or some thing Similar and pry out that little plastic incert .Then when you start your car and you are about to shift out of park place a key of any a small screw flat driver into the hole and push down and shift out of park.Once out of park you can shift to any gear if you return the shifter to park you would have to incert the screw driver again. If you need to locate the brake light switch just follow your brake pedal up under the dash board it will be a small white plastic switch attached above the btrke pedal .IT is very simple to replace ,when you locate it just twist it anti clock wise and it will come off , then press the clip in the plug and remove the brake switch from the wire harness. To replace the new one just press the brake pedal down place the switch back where the old one came off and twist clock wise until it snaps into place.and replace the wire plug.REMBER When you get your new brake switch DO NOT press it down or it will get stuck.IF this happens just pull it back it out.and do not buy this part at any auto parts store because the connecter woul be smaller .go to a suzuki dealer ....THEN WHEN YOU FIX THIS PROBLEM GET RID OF THE CAR THIS IS ONLY THE START FOR PROBLEMS TO COME ...GOOD LUCK..
