there should be a cover you can unbolt under the truck/car, to inspect the flywheel, it may be something other than the flywheel, how did you arrive @ this thought ? manual or automatic trans ? could be your engine, does sound get louder when you give it throttle in neutral, or when your moving ? think about it !

You will need an OBD2 scanner which can purchase a cheap one just to get the diagnostic trouble code. It's not like the older vehicles you could just use a jumper wire. Most of your local auto parts stores will pull the codes for you at no cost.

probrem is in the intrument cluster. Most times the body control module has to be re-flashed. I would recommend seeing your GM dealer, before any parts replacement...

I would suspect your ignition switch is bad. Try turn the key all the way back to the accessory position. If the vehicle will not shut off then open the hood and open the fuse box cover. Find the IGN C (20Amp) fuse and pull it out. This will cut the fuel and ignition to the engine. Do not replace the fuse until you want to start the vehicle or you will drain the battery. Have your ignition switch checked and replace.

your coolant temp depending on where you are has a lot to do with gas consumption so there for you might want to check your thermostate it could be letting to much coolant pass by at a time and its not keeping the proper temp in the engine do to your location

If the pump is not rotating all the time then it's due for replacement. They are not supposed to stop while engine is running. 227K miles is a lot of miles for any engine component.

losen the positive cable remove the cable from battery for 10 seconds reinstall this resets the ecm

connect the vac pipe up and i guarentee it will stat smoking ,thats why its been left off

if its like my ford it'll have a bleeder valve by the fuel filter hope it does otherwise run the fuel line you'll find it

You might try finding a programmer for it which will give you more power better fuel economy and will also allow for the govenor to be overided.
