Mitsubishi Pajero Sport 2012 Model What can cause the diff lock to engage on its own at 120km/h and can it cause any damage?

Hi Jacky Anything on a vehicle making loud noises wont be healthy and yes may cause damage. A couple of questions. Is this a problem that has just occurred? If so have you had any work carried out just prior to this fault? Have you had any tyres or wheels changed. Are all the wheels and tyres the same on front and rear axles? If you are unable to think of any changes book it into Mitsubishi as this fault needs to be fixed before it causes to much damage. Good luck

Yes indeed. Alighnment caused that to happen. Your alighnment was not done properly or was incomplete. The company that alighned your vehicle is responsible.

On the 2003 diesel pajero the orange light comes on after driving for about 30 minutes in the middle of the green 4 wheels indecator

Hi Alan, usually a "false flag" message. The diffs have sensors to tell what state they are in. If there is a mismatch between what the sensor tells and what the gear lever state actually is, it will flash. Diff sensors can malfunction because of dirt/oxidation and give a wrong reading. On the center diff the sensor is on top of the box, under the car floor. Hard to get at! Regards Winfried

I was driving my Mitsubishi Pajero to work and suddenly shows the ABS warning light and the alarm buzzer also coming together.

Pls check ABS sensors and cabling of sensors to ABS control unit. Sensor visible damage or cable/connector problem? If none of these, the MUT II tester will tell you where to look Regards Winfried

Can low fuel affect the climbing of my Pajero Mitsubishi manual station wagon?

Hi Jegf, you should have your drive axles universal joints checked (wheel sides) and the hub bearings. The "donk" suggests a faulty bearing. Also when you start off again and there is no noise, this could mean that the bearing in question is quiet under load but rattles when not. If you brake, does the noise go away? Then it is almost surely a bearing on the way out. I have seen cases where the noise comes from the brakes itself, e,g, a rusted splash guard with some loose rusted parts touching the brake disk. But this would hardly produce a "donk" when stopping. Regards, Winfried

My nm model pajero exceed will go into 4 wheel drive, but will not disengage.any ideas

Hi Jim, this is rather common. The front axle diff will have a hard time disengaging if the gears are under load. You need a load change (get of the acc pedal, move steering a bit left right, briefly go to neutral on the auto transmission, then back to drive). This will help to get the front diff loose again. Sometimes it really takes some time to disengage! Mostly the problem is gone when you stop the car, switch off engine, release brake, then start again and drive - and voila- back to 2WD. On hard surfaces the transmission can go into a wind-up state (because of different wheel speed when cornering), esp the center diff (4WD and center diff locked) then is under such load that the car virtually stops driving or you can hear crackling noises and tyre slip on tarmac! Regards, Winfried
