These are the same thing, the filter is called the cabin filter, there are two of them one on top of the other. i will enclose diagrams to help you its not hard to do,first remove the glovebox door stoppers, then remove the glovebox, next is to remove the resistor connector , then remove the clips holding the cooling unit cover, then remove filters from the unit, make sure to install new filters in the right direction, there are arrows that should be pointing up, make sure the tougue grooves line up in unit and no air leaks when done, reverse to install. good luck and hope this is helpful. good day.

On most of the Subarus, it is a flat motor, meaning the left and right cylinders are 180 degrees from each other. You will want to pull the engine to do the head gasket because the engine is mounted sideways, you will not be able to do the backside of the engine properly. Most shops will charge around $1500 to $2000 to do the job. I believe there is enough room to leave the transaxle in the vehicle and just pull the engine.
