please explain what is happening. Timing belts have nothing to do with engine rpms other than to keep the valves in correct time. If the engine just revs up to 3-4000rpms then there are other sensors that are faulty. run the fault codes to find out which ones may need fixing.

Any codes set? If not, run normal diagnostic checks, such as is are the plugs getting spark? Test fuel pressure, check for injector pulse using noid light, and check that timing belt has no broken. Next would be test crank/cam sensor.

I had this car (2001 model) and loved it, look on the driver side under the steering I think it is there, but high up behind the console (if I remember correctly).

Popped the 12V lighter outlet fuse once with a cellphone charger`s end that rattled loose, unscrewed and dropped parts into the 12 socket causing a short.

this is normal practice to protect the engine /transmission from costly repairs. Run the fault codes to find which sensor is activated. Check all fluid levels (coolant at the radiator cap). Fix the fault and use a scanner to reset the light.

It sounds to me like you have an intermittent bad connection somewhere. It may be difficult to track down. The loose connection would be somewhere between your alternator, battery, frame, body, and interior.

You do not reset or clear anything

The info in the computer will be used to
diagnose ---why it went into Limp Mode

If you clear data with a code reader or removing
the battery cable, the shop will not have the freeze
frame data that occured when the vehicle went down
& it makes for a longer & in your case ,more expensive
fix to finding a problem & solving it

Tow it in if necessary
