I have a 1996 1.6ie Opel Astra when I start the car the refs go up to 2000 refs and when I tap the petrol it comes down again and when I am driving the car is jerking and the engin light comes on.

Could be several things but being check engine light is on have vehicle scanned this will tell you what system is having trouble

Looking for workshop manual that I can down load via PDF file on how to change clutch on Opel astra 160ie 1993 model cable has been set to max car battle's with 1st and second gear when cold

struggling in first gear, is this to engage with clutch or get in gear its self. also there are not meany places to get a 1993 manual but a 1995 will cover the clutch system. have you tried adjusting the clutch cable, its a pain to adjust but undo the cable till there is slack not much just enough to lift the cable with little finger then check by trying to engage a gear. do this adjustment in a wide area so you have space for vehicle to move about. but if you still having problems with first gear and others are fine to move then it will be the gear gaiter needs replacing, its in the gear stick. its made out of plastic and first gear is the most used gear so this will wear out quicker. you will need to disassemble the gear stick and take of the leather boot to get to the bolts and undo them.

My Astra remote start is turning on by itself; sometimes it cuts right off and other times, it runs a while then shuts off. HELP!

think you will need to have the engine management unit read to find the fault. it sounds like there is a fault with the code reader or it could be the remote, but a read out should tell you what the problem is. sometimes if the remote gets wet it can cause this problem.
