How do you disassemble a steering lock on a 2005 Jeep Wrangler I have had a problem with it locking up even with the key on the off pos...
I'M RV towing it.(etc)
ok redux:your towing the veh. not driving it.big difference there....if the steering locks (if first unlocked)with key in OFF or in run )the key switch is bad and car too dangerous to drive. It must not lock, imagine a car fire.and you cant cut electrical to off. imagine.NOw FAT TOW, (one end up tows, are *******)so of all the ways tow a veh, which one.???flat tow.?? (just did that 1000 miles on XJ)dolly tow.?each has different rules.the key lock is to prevent theft towing , with no key.(in possession)that is its purpose. What drive line,????2wd or 4wdwhat transmission , a/t or stick?i cant guess your driveline nor tow mode and both matter.http://rv-roadtrips.thefuntimesguide.com/2007/05/tow_jeep_wrangler_unlimited.phpbut one example.. above. hope i guessed your driveline.some are even 2wd. ! lots of drivelines,,, engine /trans, and 2wd/.4wdand rules for not burning up rear bearings in all transmissions. (on a/t box the pump is dead. so..)i do see a mistakes in the book.step one page 232. (in glove box book)it should say, insert key and get the steering unlocked first. if stuck?, get front tires off the curb, or out a pit in road. or off a huge rock, to release the parking steering lock.lock #1 is in the A/T box, and is a problem child #2.same with a/t box. the park can lock up same waythe lock sticks.if car parked say down hill, and driver used park lock, before the hand brake,...ask folks in San Francisco about that.?I took my military driving test there... fun !i think i posted all ways to mess this up.
