If the oil-change light does not go away after service, carry out these steps to reset it:
1. Put the ignition in "ON" position
2. Use the menu on your speedometer
3. Push the button on your steering and get to the 'Service Required' menu
4. Hold the "OK" button to reset. The light should go away now.

You can try using some BB blast unlocking mechanism and the key mechanism but it sounds to me like solenoid is going bad but who knows try to be be blessed without it I can never tore down that 40 Ford the stuff is wonderful

without seeing vehicle i cannot post a answer ,i can only suggest the clockspring under steering wheel or the wires under the seat ? .if software will not read fault or you dont have hte right software then you can connect a 3 ohm resistor in the power lead to whatever unit and see if light goes out then you know what is causing fault .airbag wiring is yellow
