Hi Lennie you need to detach and remove the glass altogether to replace the regulator. When you remove the door cover you can see the bolts holding the reg in place. At the bottom of the glass are two clamps with clips or bolts holding the glass to the reg. when you have the glass out then remove the reg bolts and the wiring harness. Refit all in reverse order. Fuel cap is part of the emission system. If is not put back on correctly your light will come on. Removing and installing correctly will cause the light to go off. Make sure cap is secure each time you fuel up. See if that ends the problem. If not try a new cap.
