The rev counter on my 2006 Gand vitara (J20a), stops working and the engine check light comes on, When I read the code it brings up P0340 (Cam angle sensor), Have replaced the sensor and the 4 coil pa
omg, (i guess you meant engine stalls?)i guess, story is , engine stalls.(makes chain noises?)then you reset 340s, and it repeats. 340s can mean , bad wires to CMP.or the cam chain is loose causing the CMP to bouncethe ECU on this car will dump 340s for 1 misfire in 10so if it has gross chain issues, or VVT (is it VVT, nah VVT that is J20b) (google VVT)340s means , cmp deadormeans its bouncing.or wires to CMP damage.is the chain noise being ignored, I cant hear it.4 new cops, that was an expensive gue$$.340s means, that the CMP shows wild errorsand compared to the CKP, that is what it means, in simple clear English.know how spark is generated?the CMP tells ecu which cylinder is firing1 to 4 and for injection firing.the CKP tells the ecu when TDC happens #1(exactly)together they are the precursors to spark (inputs)the ECU drives, spark. if CMP or CMP lie, every there will be no accurate spark ever. (lie = signals weak, distorted, dropouts or pulsing wrong in any way)Yours IS...the ECU also watches the relation ship of CKP and CMP sensors. CKP is a coil mag senorCMP is HALL sensor or optical, (i forget which)but does not matter, what matters are clear signals.if they show contradictions, The ECU dumps DTC errors for one or both.if the chain is loose, you will get sensor errors.it's a fact. on all EFI engines. (with 1 or 2 sensors)no mileage stated on engine.!100k. 300k , 500k? miles>on this engine,CMP is behind left rear cam, DOHC.the CKP is behind flywheel where you will never touch.. (trans off, and fly must be removed,)the CKP is usually dead accurate all the timeso if the CAM jogs, (loose chain) the ecu sees that fast. Seems to me your CKP is OK. btw.and reports it, but is not AI level of smarts.all it can tell you is the relationships are failing. (on new cars the errors are called INCONGRUITY. (not as expected)the ECU models both sensors in memory and knows what to expect at all times. including normal RPM accelerations. but not drop out. orwith bad jittering chain, pulse SKEW, way off. no more than that.see next post for why not to remove the CMP main body after year 2003 !with full photos seen on all links.last link is best.
