Cooling fan stopped running. I checked the fuse and it was blown so I replaced it. I turned the atv back on and the fan ran for a short time them quit. I checked the fuse and it looked fine but I replaced it anyway. Now the fan won't run. What should I try next?

There may be one or more causes for the P0485 code. One is a faulty cooling fan. Another is that your fan control relay harness is shorted or open. Your fan control relay or fan control circuit may also suffer from a poor electrical connection.
Ok the 6 amp fuse is for the ecm the 15 amp fuse is for the cluster one of the 20 amp is main power the outher 20 amp should be for the starter and charging circuit .your over heating problem could be in the fan temp sensor you will find it on the left side of the machine on top of the thermostat housing , take and disconnect the plug on it and jumper the two wires togather with key on fan should come on if it does replace fan temp sensor .if not visibly pull each fuse out and look to see if is burnt odds of the fan being bad is very uncommon. This will be all good if is an EFI 800 hope that is helpfull
This isn't to bad to diagnose. Do you have the tools to diagnose electrical problems? You can pull the seat, side covers and check for broken wires or blown fuse. If you have the ability, you can jump power to the fan an see if it works. The engine has a coolant temperature sensor. But you need to know how to test it. Please write back and let me know if you are looking for specific diagnostic information or a popular quick fix solution. Good Luck.
Hey Bruce,
get one of these manuals..they have the wiring diagrams and some troubleshooting tips.. trace the wires using the wiring diagram...take your time.. you CAN figure it out!!!
I have a 2001 polaris sportsman 500 H.O. I have replaced the fan and the thermial fan switch, and checked the thermostat. Everything is either new or works there are no bubles in the coolant when its running I am running out of opptions . If I unplug the thermal fan switch and plug a jumper wire in the fan will run. I thought the new switch was bad and I tested it and it is good
U should have two sensors for the cooling system one is nerr the thermostat housing for temp light / gauge ,one on the cooler at the bottem left side should have two wires on it need to pull them off connect the two togather. That should make the fan come on, if not, look for a popped fuse should invest in a handheld inferred thermometer ,there really cheap .get them on eBay for between 11 to 20 bucks brand new use it to test temp on coolant hoses to see temp on top and bottom .if fan does come replace cooling fan temp sensor.
If it turns over fast it is not the battery or charging system. If it turns over fast but does not like to start when motor is warm it is probably running rich. If it ran good before and the carb has not been messed with i would check the air filter. It needs to be nice and clean.
