What sort of noise was it? Does the noise change with the throttle or with road speed?
First check your oil levels. I'm not sure if the prowler engine shares engine oil with the gearbox or is a separate oil system. A dry gearbox can make a lot of noise AND do a lot of damage.
If the noise changes with the throttle, ( not moving and revving the engine), it could be engine issues. If the noise only happens when your moving it could be gearbox or the drive parts to the wheels.
you have a pinched wire someplace in your wire harness. maybe a melted spot also could cause this.hot wire shorting out to ground on frame. anything you had loose lately. under gas tank , wires got against exhaust pipe, wires rubbed bare from wear ? broken wire in harness could cause it.
Sounds like a carburetor problem. You should have it checked or clean it yourself if you have the skill. The users manual may tell you how to clean and adjust it.
hey Nick,
this sounds serious... make sure its NOT drive line related first..(chain or drive shaft).. see if it will roll in gear?? ..It shouldn't..(or be extremely hard to push).
then check the compression of the engine... it should pump to around 120PSI with the throttle wide open. Once you have confirmed the compression is good ( I have a feeling its the core of the problem ).. once you have done this... reply/repost on here..
What?? .. slow down and give me more specific detail.. this is not a complicated problem .. just need more info.. could be a simple clutch adjustment... or you need new clutch fiber plates??
It sounds like it could be either a stuck choke, or a dirty carb. If you can see the choke moving freely you should try cleaning the carb jet and bowl. If you can try some carb cleaner first without removing the carb.
If you get it running, ensure you have fresh gasoline. I always store my engines with Seafoam to clean the carbs and keep the gas from going bad during storage.
Your pilot jet in the carb is plugged up or to small you will have to pull the carb out and clean it if you have a wire brush you can use 1 of the needles off it that will fit in the tiny hole in the pilot jet push it through and then spay carb cleaner through it and the main jet put back together and it should run fine
when engines not running turn the gas off . And it sounds like you need to adjust your throttle pin that goes into the carb take the clip off the pin and move it down one good luck
