Fuel delivery problem or carb needs attention- repair or replacement
Adjust your throttle cable to where you have exactly 3 to 5 mm of free play on the throttle lever.
1. Check the INTAKE valve clearance!!!!
2. Check for an air leak
3. Install a new spark plug and air filter!!
4. Check the compression..
5. Have the carb professionally cleaned and set!!

Take it in to your local dealer have them recalibrate the TPS (throttle position sensor). It costs one hour labor at the dealer. What they do is bring it up to 315 degrees shut it down zero the TPS voltage, reset it to between 5.2-5.8 volts, then they start it back up and set the idle at 1100rpm.That should take care of your problem. Unless you have a intake leak or something mechanical.,,,

The idle problem is a lean fuel mix caused by an air leak in the intake system. Bad gaskets /seals on the intake manifold, bad valves, bad piston rings, loose spark plugs, and bad head gasket are all things that can lean the fuel/air mix. The smoke indicates a need for new rings. I would have the cylinders bored then install new pistons and rings. Now finish the top end work by getting a valve job. You should get a liquid fuel tank liner to eliminate any rust problems in the future. Also, install an in-line fuel filter.

the problem with the rubber was close but on the gs450 there is a metal insert that even if the rubber was rotted away the metal seals aginst the head so it cant leak. the problem is on the gs 450 suzuki used a cheap throttle cable that kinks behind the gas tank and kinks at the bend to the crabs under the set and the throttle system is a pull only not a dual cable pull push to always close the throttle. if you start the bike a wiggle the bend in the cable that comes out from the twist grip you will see it changes the idle. with either your finger or a screw driver and push the plate down on the carbs that the cable connects too. if the idle drops this conforms your problem. order a new cable from dennis kirk they have the revised one that has metal adjustment screw and metal clip in. better jacket casing as well.

There should be a circlips at the end of the driveshaft.
That circlips holds the shaft IN the differential parts.
If you have still warranty, let it repair by a dealer. The circlips is maybe INSIDE the differential casing and can thus destroy a lot of parts!
