My 2000 honda rancher has recently started to die after riding a few miles. It acts like the fuel stops getting through. It starts to stutter and then just dies and won't start again.. Needless to say it is a big problem once I a few miles away from nowhere. I tried to trace the line into the carb and it seems to flow fine. I did notice a priming valve underneath everything. Anyone know what this valve is for and if it might be related to fixing my problem?

Are you talking about bulb under air box? That's not priming bulb.It is oil viewer and drain for air box. Sounds like carb and jets just need a real good cleaning. Also have you checked your spark plug. If its is old and worn it will stop working properly and cause malfunctions.

That is just a hand primer for when you run out of fuel. you may need to change the fuel filter. and clean out the fuel chamber and veins in the carb. if filter is old 2 years then it should be changed.

SOURCE: I HAVE A CARB PROBLEM AS I DRIVE THE HONDA A LINE

The float needle is stuck open. Typically the needle can get a speck of dirt or the float adjustment arm is not properly aligned. The arm should be able to close the needle at approximately 90 degrees. Remove the float bowl and look at the carb from the side and adjust the arm to seat the needle when the floats are about where they would be as if the bowl were full of fuel.
Good luck.

The problem would appear to either be with the mixture or with the head. Too rich a mixture (too much fuel) will cause black plugs - when you take them out do the engine and plugs smell of petrol? You need to adjust the carburettor. Mark where the throttle screw is to start with and then slowly screw it (in - I think) to reduce the petrol flow.
The other alternative is that their is a problem in the head. Does the engine blow a lot of blue/black smoke out when it is hot. If yes it means a full engine strip down!

It could be a clog fuel filter. Also check your carb it may need general cleaning, jetting may need replacement.

2009 honda rancher 420 Starts and idles but when you throttle it dies

This sounds like a basic Main Jet clog. I suppose it could also be a semi-clogged fuel filter, but the Main jet is more likely. This is assuming that the engine is not fuel injected. As I do not know the type of carb I cannot give you any of the easy cheats to try for a quick check, but for older carbs with a slide you can pull the slide out and use compressed air to shoot some air down the main jet hole at the bottom. Otherwize, the "Best" way is to disassemble and clean. This is a "Guess" at best, however I have seen this very problem several times on multiple carbs. Good Luck.

I have a 2003 Honda Rancher. I just started having problems with the choke not staying on. It starts but choke will not stay on when I turn loose of knob "It works in by it self, will not stay on.

If that is the plunger type choke it is stuck. Try to get the choke out of the carb clean it and put Vasoline on it and it should work fine. I have ran into to this a few times.

My Honda rancher 420 is idling bad. it will crank and idle good for a few seconds then it starts revving up and back down. then when I put it in gear it takes off without giving it any throttle.

Hey Bj,
Sounds like the throttle position sensor is going bad, take it to a professional and let them trouble shoot it.. it WILL be cheaper in the long run!!

My 2006 Honda rancher 350 just quit running while I was driving it. will still turn over but wont start why?

Take fuel cap off to make sure it is getting air to fuel tank. Check fuel valve to make sure it is on. Drain carb with screw on bottom of carb to check for water. Pull spark plug to make sure it is firing.

What is wrong my atv willnot start unless youhold a rag with gas on it in front of breather then it will start and run untill gas fumes are gone. Its a 420 honda rancher 2010 model fuel injected. ?

That is a possibility, if it is fuel injected there is a minimum pressure required for it to run. A fule rail gauge is not very expensive and you can find fuel pump testing on Utube.

could be alot of things but start your daig.by determining if anything has changed fuel related... example.... could some water or bad gas recently been added to your gas tank or has poor fuel made it into your carb.float bowl?? Could some trash from fuel clogged a jet in the carb.? Also, some spark type problems are heat related. i.e. pulse coil generator pick-up
