Had the same problem with my 2001 sportsman 90. Weak spark, sometimes no spark, would only run for a few seconds, ect. I found a partially burnt ground wire coming off of the coil. the coil is just above the carb mounted on the frame. Mine was the small black wire on top of the coil and it fixed the five second stalling problem immediately.
I fixed mine that did the exact same thing. I took the body off. Then got to the airbox and took that off. Get carburetor spray spray into the nozlw that leads to the airbox. It will sound like it is dieing but hit the gas when it does it. It works. I also had a bad throttle cable.
Test the spark on the plug to see if it is coming and going. That is what mine was doing, had to replace the CDI, now it works great!

I have the same problem also sometimes i have spark and sometimes i don,t. if it sits sometimes i works fine, but will do the same things randomly. Let me know if anyone knows anything
Sometimes Quad will start and the next time it won't. I have been told to check the key switch and the arm tether switch.
I have the same problem. I cleaned and adjusted carberator many times. My machine starts right up and runs for about five seconds. I have fresh fuel and a fresh battery. I did install a new chankshaft seal and sprayed starting fuild around base of motor to check for leaks. My questions to you are were can I find a manual for this machine 2000 sportsman 90. What are the proper carberator adjustments, Is their a better option then the electric choke, and what is the proper compression for this motor to run properly. What is the charactoristics of this motor and how do I fix mine-- any ideas?
