You can just remove the gears inside the differential and the drive shaft. Not sure you would want to do that though, it is much better to have 4 wheel drive on an ATV.
It sounds like it needs to be adjusted or something in the transmission stripped, have you checked the rear axle and bearings, if that is the issue i think yo can get a axle and bearings for$250-$275

You didn't put the year of your atv but polaris has to kind of 4 wheel drive systems.One is in the front end and one is in the wheel hubs if you have the one in the hubs if one is not working right it could not b unlocking it will make it pull to one side it happens alot.
