My fourtrax 300 has a hanging idle. When cold it idles nicely but once warm or after a small rev the idle hikes or maintains high after rev. A restart will buy some time but the rpm hike is inevitable. It is also impossible to tune the carburator into a good warm idle. Once warm the carb either grabs a high idle or has to be tuned down so low that if it avoids the idle the motor dies. The carb is clean. Fuel diaphragam aged but undamaged, the manifold boot is uncracked with a new gasket. Starter fluid, wd40, yeild no changes when sprayed in crucial areas. Dying for a lead to resolution.
Assuming your carb and filter is clean... and that you have not modded the intake or exhaust, I believe you need to adjust your airscrew. If it is located near the intake side of your carb, unscrewing it will lean it out. It it is located between the slide of the carb and the intake , unscrewing it will richen it. If you quad pops when you decelerate with the throttle chopped... it is lean. Screw it in until it seats and see where you are at to start with.
Good luck...let me know how it goes
Check your float height? sounds like its high and runs normal when cold like the choke is on but when warm its getting too much fuel.
SOURCE: I have a 2001 r6.It idle very low approx 500rpm.If
sounds like its in the carbs floats might be getting stuck
SOURCE: Will not idle. Will not start hot or cold without
By your description, it sounds like the pilot jet is plugged in the carb. Remove carb and clean thoroghly with carb cleaner and air, making sure that all jet passages are clear. Make sure that washer and "o" ring are present on fuel mixture screw, if so equipped. Make sure float level is correct.

If your bike is carb equipped, remove the air filter cover and look at the top right of your carb. You'll see the idle speed stop screw there. Turn the screw slighly clockwise to increase the idle speed of the engine. If you bike is equipped with fuel injection, you'll have to take your bike to a dealer or independent shop that has the ability to make changes to the ECM.
Good Luck
