I am a ATV mechanic and I have put a new head on this magnum because the customer blew out the threads for the spark plug. I have timed it to specs, cleaned the carb and checked everything for ware or damage and set the choke cable to specs as well. It fires up perfectly and will run but then all of a sudden it acts like it's going into choke mode with the choke off. The exhaust is so rich I have to open the door to let out the funes from the exhaust. I checked the override to see if it might be causing it but it's not that. I've done everything to the book but still no resolve. Any hints out here to help me?

NO! Check the boot between the carb and engine. Very common problem for aged rubber is non-visual cracks. Pull it off and check the boot by kneeding it and looking at it under a light.

one of your jets is fully or parially clogged. Remove the carb, remove the bowl from the card, then remove the jets. Spray compressed air through the holes and clean with carb cleaner. Common problem with old gas. Also clean out any varished gas from the carb bowl

P.S. spark is good as well
The boot is good and it has a new needle and seat
Warren, what did you ever find wrong with your 425 runnning rich? I have the exact same problem on mine and am just as frustrated as you seemed to be a few years ago.
