Tascam Audio Players & Recorders - Recent Questions, Troubleshooting & Support

These unit as small as they are have to be worked on by professionals that know how to fix them. So far as I know there is only me in Chicago and Russ in New Jersey that can repair them.
Without seeing the unit I can not tell you more about how to fix it.
It could be anything in the unit that has the problem.

Stereomanuals.com is helpful most times. Otherwise Hi Fi Engine may have a poorly scanned one.

There is no part number that will help. Contact me as I have a lot of them in stock and I change them at my shop in the Chicago area. Look up Skywave Tape Deck Repair. I can send you one in the mail.

The grease in the mechanism may have gotten hard after all this time and I have seen that model fail inside of 90 days of purchase. It does not use a Sony high end transport. Needs to be seen by a Technician who used to work on those.

Look for small leaver or any contact switches. They might have become bent out of shape or broken, or have dirt in them, cutting off the sound. Also check the leads coming from the head, they might have become detached or at least you can trace where they join the PC board. If you touch where they join you should get a buzz on either channel.

Common problem with these decks-the capstan motor needs to be replaced- A DIY job if you are careful and have some mechanical common sense- Tascam still sells these motors, around $100

The best reproduced manuals are at Stereomanuals.com as this is where I get mine from. Why do you need such a drawing? I will look as what I have here. The mechanical drawing might help and it might not. If they- whom ever fixed it lost parts they did you a dis-service. Now a spare unit will be needed to get parts from.

You'll never get rid of the latency problem if you record from a speaker. Speakers are analog and when you mix digital with analog you get latency.
