Tascam model 112
The 112 unit uses a cam operated transport- it may need a new 6.5" belt and some head base lubrication as well as the feedback pot spray cleaned. I do them all the time.

Tascam 122MKII - press play no sound, meters don't move
Look for small leaver or any contact switches. They might have become bent out of shape or broken, or have dirt in them, cutting off the sound. Also check the leads coming from the head, they might have become detached or at least you can trace where they join the PC board. If you touch where they join you should get a buzz on either channel.

Tascam 122MKIII Cassette player/recorder is malfunctioning.
I have one here at my shop that does the same thing almost. I found a gear broken in the mechanism system. The flashing LEDs tells you that the system control IC can not get the transport where it is suppose to go. The Gear C as described in the manual was the problem in the deck here. The head base was in the up position in this unit and thus would not eject. My E mail is email@example.com. Due to the amount of dis-assembly to get to the transport control section this might be a job for a technician.

I am the owner of a tascam 2488 and since day one I can't connect it to my pc. What can I do?
When you connect a Universal Serial Bus (USB) Microsoft Windows CE-based device to a computer that is running Microsoft Windows 2000, the computer may halt with a "Bugcheck code 0000000A" error message on a blue screen. If you restart your computer and try to reattach the device, the error message occurs again.
This error message occurs only on computers that are using the Microsoft Wceusbsh.sys driver and ActiveSync 3.1 to synchronize a Windows CE-based device with the host computer. This problem has been noticed on legacy-free computers only (computers with no COM ports or motherboard ISA bus slots).
The error code may be similar to:

Additionally, it would be unusual to see Wceusbsh.sys in the call stack. The fault should occur after (above, in the stack) the ExpScanGeneralLookasideList function.
This issue occurs because of a problem with the way kernel lookaside lists are handled by the Windows CE Wceusbsh.sys synchronization driver.
Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

Tascam MF-P01 recorder - hearing nothing during play back
Mine also would not play back on any of the channels but would record. The problem was on the lower board, capacitors C105, C205, C305 and C405, all are 220uF, rated at 10V - on a 9V machine! All four went leaky, which meant that the op-amps each were connected to got a bias which drove the output to 8.5V and no output.
I replaced all four capacitors with new ones rated at 25V and it works again!
