Hi
Global Positioning Devices, or GPS, are tracked by satellites to locate their position on Earth in real time. Because they track their own location, they can help you drive, boat, fly or even walk to a particular destination, while giving you information such as your speed, elevation, and arrival time as well. Smart phones have GPS technology built in that is able to update maps automatically, but traditional GPS's have maps loaded onto them that you must manually update occasionally via the internet. Different companies have different ways to do this, but most include straightforward directions on the company's website. Go to your GPS Company's website, and locate the "Maps" section. It will usually be found under "Support" or "Updates" if there is not an obvious "Maps" tab on the homepage. Plug your GPS into your computer with a compatible USB cord.
Follow the steps to installing the USB driver or plug-in from the website. Click the "Download" link, and read and agree to their terms if asked. Then press "Save file" if asked.
Go into the "Maps" section of the company's website again, and go to the "Update maps" section. Your GPS should be detected by the driver or plug-in, and this will let you know if there are available updates to install. There may be updated maps available for free, but you may have to purchase them. Purchase and then press "Download." Follow the prompts for accepting the terms of agreement, saving the file, and updating your GPS device.
Restart your GPS by unplugging it from the computer and waiting for it to update the new maps. Use as normal.
