Sounds to me like there is either a connection fault Or a Safety Cut out Switch that keeps.... well..... Cutting out or In as the case would Be. A Google search on the Make & Model number on your Ryobi Ry40500 electric Chainsaw Could bring up some answers. My Guess is the Safety Guard Cut out safety Switch is faulty.

Take the machine apart and first check the status of the switch if it's attached. Follow the power chord to the bottom of the trimmer and ensure that they are attached as the detach due to strain

Ring openings want to be nowhere near the ports as it is possible for them to catch, snap, snag and do a lot of damage. If the ports are at 12 and 6 on a clock face, you want the ring gaps to be a 3 and 9, and top one at 3, next ring at 9 etc. alternating, depending on 2 or 3 rings.

The same answer as I replied yesterday. You use a flywheel extractor kit or a 3 legged puller. Try pulling the muffler off there is a small screen clean it and replace or try starting with muffler off had the same thing happen with stihl weedeater
