Hey! Usually, DVDs have some protections which prevent DVD users copying DVDs freely. Theser protections include CSS protection, region code protection etc. Therefore, you need to remove DVD protections first if you want to copy DVDs. There are some DVD Copy software which can do this. I have a good luck with this DVD Copy which works fine. You can have a try if you like.

I'd upgrade. to new drive.even consider those $14 external USB DVD drives off ebay.I have one, and use it on ANY PC here, making it popular. even on w10.v1903 works.'

Hello Don, You can always disassemble the unit and attempt to clean the laser, adjust laser power, or determine that the motor is no longer functioning, however; What is your time worth per hour? How many hours will you waste attempting to salvage a $50 dollar item? What other things can you achieve during that wasted time? Due to the price point, I would agree that Plex Support gave you the best advice...time to purchase a new one. Best regards,

how old is your dvd rom  pal ?
if its too old syu more than 3 years  will hav the problrem in rotor mechanism
or else
try cleaning the lense

Do you have the user manual? If yes, it should tell you what the code means. If not, then you need to visit the Plextor website and see if they have details of what it means. http://www.plextoramericas.com/index.php/supports

Okay.....this one is strange. Check on the back of the DVD Drive. You should see if it has connections on it. if it has two "L" Looking slots, then you will need SATA connectors. If you see a bunch of gold pins lined up in a row of TWO, then you need IDE/ATAPI Cables. You will have to take the side panel off of your desktop and look for the connections on the motherboard. Once you have identified the connections on the motherboard, you will have to install the DVD writer into a blank "Slot" on the upper case of the Desktop. you can go to www.youtube.com for demo videos on how to do this Shannon. And PLEASE do it yourself; you will teach yourself something and it will be fun!!!

Did you try other players ?
does it play on the computer ?

if it doesnt then try using a slower speed or different media..
