Hi, well this is a fairly common problem. And is evidenced by the fact that you can "Jog" forwards with the manual button. It is a main board "Logic Fault" as reported by my peers, and is really only repairable by a professional, however these devices are NOT well supported and there is very little information anywhere, and now that you indicate that the manufacturer no longer repairs them, I fear we may have a real problem. I have read that a firware upgrade or firmware replacement may help?, however i have no further knowledge about that and this is something that you may have to investigate, to see if possible for this exaxct model?
The usual way to repair in these cases, is to obtain a old unit with only physical damage and swap out the main board or the relevant IC's if a socketed board? and hope for the best.
The manufacturer may indeed NOT repair or service these units, however "They" should be able to provide one with a recommendation of who can repair these units? I suggest you contact them and ask for a referral.
To be able to even have a chance at a successful repair, even an engineer, must have a service manual, or servicing data, not only for the information circuits and troubleshooting flow charts, but more for the Parts Numbers, which are crucial in being able to obtain the spare parts for repair.
Remember if you do find a place that will repair or service this unit FIRST only ask for a "Quote" as to the cost and TYPE of repairs, and go from there.
I have a Mac OS
http://www.scanace.com/download/driver/CVXSF/113a/MAC/SF_ENG.dmg
This is the driver - copy/paste it in a blank browser address and a download window will appear - Save it then follow the very clearly explained steps from that page
1. Disconnect the scanner from the computer (if it is currently connected)
2. Once the file is downloaded you will have a VISE logo icon, Cyberview X double click on this to begin the installation follow the onscreen prompts
3. The password it needs is your Apple system password, if a previous driver was already installed you will be prompted to remove it, select OK, then when that has completed the new version will be installed automatically
To use these new drivers
Go to Mac HD-Applications-Cyberview X_SF- and click on Cyberview X (looks like a piece of film)
Once loaded you can click on this film icon in your dock and select to keep it there for easy program access in the future ; this is it's user manual, save it for further use

Th slides I scan are
Scanning of a natural picture handled by an image processing system always causes a loss of information, i.e., the micro picture elements become uncertain and vague. This is essential when the picture is to be used for measuring or evaluation of structural parameters. To make the induced uncertainty and vagueness transparent up to the computed results, specifications and procedures from fuzzy set theory are presented and suggested. In particular, distances of pixels are considered. For a demonstration of how this uncertainty can influence conclusions from the given picture, the computation of the approximate gradient of a curve is considered.
Reasons to change the automatically determined resolution
It is desirable to change the resolution if the destination of the scanned image is an image file or if it is intended for use on the World Wide Web.
When scanning to a file, unlike scanning to a destination program such as Adobe (R) PhotoDeluxe (TM), the intended use for the scan is not necessarily determined. It may be necessary to change the resolution to achieve the desired results. For example:
If selecting Image File or Image and Text File as the destination, and the resulting image is for on-screen use (for example, in a World Wide Web page), change the resolution to 72 to 75 dots-per-inch (dpi). (Resolutions higher than 75 dpi do not improve the appearance of an image displayed on a computer monitor and require longer download times.)
If selecting Image File or Image and Text File as the destination, and the image file is being sent to a printer with a resolution of 1200 dpi or higher, change the resolution to 300 dpi. (Resolutions above 300 dpi rarely improve image quality, even for high-resolution printers.)
