The Nikon LS 2000 Film

The lubricant has become sticky and is acting more like adhesive than lubricant. This is the most common cause of malfunction in the LS-2000 and LS-30 scanners. It's a quite curable condition. Nikon LS-2000 and LS-30 film scanner service and repair is available. Check seller pjferrante2 on eBay. Scanner performance backed for 12 months. Very reasonable price.

Nikon scanner was unable to

That problem usually occurs when the ASPI Layer driver has not been installed, or when scanner operation is attempted on a 64-bit OS.

The LS 2000 scanner shows

Hi,

Stepper motor failure, it means just that or it could be the drive servo, if you can hear it running then it could well be there is something jammed or the drive belt the drives the sensor has come adfrift.

All a stepper motor is basically is the thing that drives the spindle pulley, the rotator is a magnetic disc or drum mounted inside a field coil, a complete reverse to a normal motor as we all know of... a armature mounted inside a magnet.

A stepper motor does not use brushes since the magnetic drum does the rotating in a pair of field coils.

If you could get your hands on a broken scanner, need not be the same model but certainly needs to be the same part numbers of the parts you are replacing.

Hope this helps!!

Connecting a Nikon LS200 slide scanner to a PowerBook G4

Yes - get hold of an Adaptec USB2XCHANGE SCSI-USB cable and download Vuescan software (www.hamrick.com). This works perfectly on LS2000 - Macbook Pro combo.
