Unsoldering with a desoldering pump is easy. The problem will be soldering the new processor without overheating it. You would have to use a little flux and work fast. Perhaps put the heat sink in the freezer before you solder. Very strange to not have the processor in a socket so you can remove it.

Yes, the hardware is SDHC-compatible. You just need to apply Microsoft hotfix KB934428 for Windows XP (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?displaylang=de&FamilyID=6edfb30f-b1ab-42a8-a330-acd6762961bc) and you are set. 16GB SDHC working like a charm.

Discharging the battery will not harm the battery. Lenovo purposely has an annoyingly slow recharge rate because a quick recharge will shorten the life of the battery. It is not a problem if you have the patience to allow a long recharge. Otherwise spring for a second battery for quick replacement when AC power is not accessible.

I found the following thread in the Lenovo forums, that sounds like the same problem, and indicates you need to turn the num lock off. See here.and here.
If that doesn't do it, here's the keyboard troubleshooter for your Thinkpad. It's possible a bios update could be in order. It's also possible you need to check the internal connection. If you decide to do so, here's a link to the service manual for that model.

I hope this information allows you to resolve this issue. If you need further assistance, please post back with a comment to this thread.
If I've managed to answer your question or solve a problem, please take just a moment to rate this post....thanks!

The problem with the laptop is that the Main board fan needs to be clean. It could have accumulated a lot of dust. Try cleaning the fan and the laptop would be faster than before and seize shutting down.

Before that I would advise you to update the BIOS which will be available in the manufacturer's website. This could also resolve the issue.
Fan cleaning must be done in such a way that the laptop must be disassembled and clean the dust in the fan.
Assemble the parts once again and the laptop would be as good as new.

If you fear disassembling the laptop you can contact the manufacturer tech support to have the fan cleaned.
