sounds like your player dosen't like packed bitsreams. try unpacking with some software such as MPEG4Modifier or AVIdemux and see if that helps. Playback of packed bitstreams may also be jerky.

At 7 years old your TV needs to be replaced. To repair a TV this old would cost as much as a new one and not give you as good a picture. If you can't afford a new TV look at refurbished models.

Just a completely "amature" guess, but last week I bought a "MEMOREX" DVD Lens Cleaner, that works great (shocked at how much dust it picked up! I didn't know they even existed). I bought it at the "Dollar Store" for ONLY $1.50 !! Also, especially if you have a dog or cat, take a peak inside the DVD tray area when it's open, with a decent $2.00 Dollar Store flashlight, and see if there are any pet hairs, dust, etc. visible. A longshot, but worth a look, no? Good luck!

Your DVD player will accept only Divx disc ( AVI files ) So use an encoder to convert your files into AVI before you write them.
The standard DVD is a format called MPEG 2 and don't confuse it with MPEG4.

Plasma TV's have a shelf life. By that I mean the screen is only good for so many hours depending on the model. Most likely, you have burnt out the screen and the set will need to be replaced. The good news is, plasma TV's used to be better than LCD but that is no longer the case. You can get a very high quality LCD TV for a very low price now. Also they use a fraction of the power and don't generate all of the heat of a plasma.I'm sure this is not what you wanted to hear but the reality is that ALL plasma TV's do this eventually, and it is something that most salesmen back in the day didn't bother to tell customers. If you have an extended warranty, you may be able to get it replaced.

Sounds like there may be a problem with your power supply or the main board in the TV.

On the bright side, this is usually repairable and it may be economically feasible to do so. Contact a local TV repair shop and obtain an estimate. If the estimate is over $300, I would recommend purchasing a new TV, as I've been selling 50' Plasma TVs for less than $600.

The TV is on protect mode.

Try first leaving the TV power cord unplugged for some times, let say one hour or so.

Also ensure that the fault is not coming from a faulty receiver box sending bad signal, check if you get same problem with no receiver box or dvd connected.

If that does not work, and you keep having a flashing led on front of the TV, and tv turning off by itself after a while, that indicates a fault condition.

The flashing light indicates a diagnostic state called protection.
When the TV goes on protection there are only two possible reasons.

1The internal circuits are jammed because of electrostatic charges accumulating on capacitors, or because of a wrong voltage read by the main chip on your monitor controller board. this started the protection circuit.

2 The protection circuit detected a wrong voltage or abroken contact, identified an internal fault and kicked in , startingthe flashing light.

If you are in situation one, then theTV will reset just unplugging power cord for one or two hours,sometimes even minutes.

If you are in situation 2 , then there is an internal fault.

Common faults that can occur are a blown capacitor on power board, a convergence IC has blown, or a fault on Digital board.

Check also the video cable or any external connection cable, if the cable is shorting, or the connector is bad, you can get same flashing state because of the video cable.

If under warranty contact the manufacturer ringing the number on the user manual

If you want to repair at your own expenses, just locate any good qualified repairer.

Unfortunately the DVD is probably shot. The only thing you can do is get a DVD lens cleaner disk and use it. If that does not remedy the problem then there is a problem with the lens. It could be knocked a jar. This is a fixable problem, but cost as much as the unit to fix. DVD players are so cheap now its not worth buying any parts. If the player has been knocked or moved or dropped it is probably a miss aligned lens.

I had a DVD player that did the same thing. It wasn't worth trying to fix so I just bought a new one.

Try to cover the remote sensor on the tv,if this sorts the problem out then it could be florecent lighting that can cause this.
