I found that the rubber seal on the bottom of my cyclone is not properly seated to the bottom of canister, I guessed when I removed the clear canister bin completely from cyclone unit for cleaning, I put the cyclone down on the floor and rubber seal accidentally move upward just a little. this creates a small gap on the bottom when I reassembled it, (since seal is up from it original position a little). I pulled rubber seal down to its original position, you will notice that there should not be a gap on the bottom at all, this way you do not have to clean or should not have to clean the filter but once a month or even less.

Check for obstructing debris right at the intake to the container. Had one of these in the shop and everything was clear but nothing was going into the container

It is not made for plush carpets. You may need a vacuum with adjustable height

Make sure the filters are not causing a restriction in airflow.

There is a short tube at the bottom and the changeover valve that switches from tools to the floor when you pull the handle back into vacuuming mode. Make sure the valve is switching back and forth smoothly and properly.

If it overheated it will come back on after it cools down. Overheating can be caused by filters being restricted. They can look ok but still be restricted. Both filters should be cleaned frequently and replaced every couple years. Failure to clean and replace filters can lead to premature motor failure.
If it didn't overheat you may have an electrical problem, a bad motor, cord, wire, switch, connection, etc. in which you will have to test for proper voltage from the plug and cord to the motor to try to find the problem(s).
