There are plastic clips that you will have to remove, then pull on one side of the assembly to remove it then pull on the other side.

Replace the belts in the clutch or replace the entire clutch assembly. Burning rubber smell usually indicates a stretched out belt.
I don't understand what you mean by it's not locking properly. The brush will not spin unless you have the clutch lever in the proper position and then recline the handle into the vacuuming mode.
You may have something restricting the changeover valve from operation properly. Your model is not easy to diagnose problems without being able to inspect and analyze it thoroughly.

On the DC28 you will have to replace the cleaner head assembly. A Dyson repair or warranty dealer can get one for you. I can get one for you if you can't find one locally.

If something is restricting the ball from spinning freely it will make it hard to move.

It could be your motor, or it could be a short or bad part somewhere. Your local Dyson service facility can check it for you.

This usually indicates a brush roll problem which could be caused by a bad pub, wire loom, or the cleaner head assembly. I recommend you have it checked at your local Dyson repair facility to determine the problem.

If the suction is good it could be the brush roll is not doing it's job. If the bristles are worn or frayed or the belt is slipping your vacuum may work ok on hard surface floors but will not do a good job when vacuuming carpets. Your model has two belts in the clutch assembly. When these belts lose elasticity the belts will slip rather than turning the brush roll at the proper speed when vacuuming carpets. The carpet fibers create a lot of resistance to the brush roll so a belt that appears good may not be working properly when used to vacuum carpeted floors even if the vacuum has great suction. I would recommend replacing the brushroll if needed and the belts or the clutch assembly.

The problem is not a twisted hose. The hose itself is way too stiff. It pulls the vacuum around instead of expanding to reach. I hate this hose and it's too bad, because the vacuum works well, but trying to use the hose attachment it futile because it just doesn't stretch out unless the vacuum is pinned up against something to keep it from rolling and tipping over.

Hello, this is Ava with Think Crucial.

There are a number of reasons why your Dyson is acting that way. First, it can be due to a battery of the cleaner. Make sure that the power cable is properly plug to the power and seated properly from the unit while charging. If you find that the battery isn't charging at all, you may need to replace the battery. Second is to check the MAX button of your cleaner. If the button lights up and flashes when your Dyson keeps on pulsating, press and hold the power button and depress the MAX button to turn off the function. You may need to do it for a few times to get the hang of it. Third is to check for any blockages or clogs in the attachments. Look down through the tube and check to see if there are clogs on the sweeper end or if the roller is tangled up in fibers. Clean the roller brush are if it it's necessary. You may need to empty the dust bin of your unit as debris can build up in hard to reach places. Lastly, cleaning the filters may fix the pulsating of your cleaner. Remove the filter and rinse it with cold water and air dry it for 12 hours. Don't use detergent when washing your filters. If the pulsating doesn't go with the given quick fix, I suggest to contact Dyson for further assistance on this.

Often times when people bring a vac in for repairs and say it has no suction at the floor it has good suction but not good agitation. Make sure the belts in the clutch are new (some people are selling used clutches with stretched out belts) and the brush roll is good. If the agitation from the brush roll is not good it will not pick up even light soils like hair and lint.
