I don't think it entirely fair to say "any degree provides these" and then list quantum physics (which is most likely above bachelor degree) and computer science as examples. Obviously if they can solve "high level problems" they can think critically. But if we take a physics degree for example sure it might seem more prestigious but most people will not find jobs in physics with out at least a masters and that's if your lucky. In both cases the degree does not provide the exact skills used in a job but that does not mean the degree is useless.

College has its perks and it has its disadvantages. If you're worried about not feeling belonged, most colleges have hundreds of organizations that you can get involved in. Getting involved in at least one or two organizations is a good way to make new friends and not feel alone. I myself went across the country to go to college as well, and I joined the Glee Club because I enjoyed singing. Doing that allowed me to make a lot of friends within the first month of college, and I'm really shy. As for the perks of college, a lot of people eat alone and a lot of people eat with their roommates or friends. I myself eat alone normally. No one really cares because they are too busy studying or enjoying their free time. Basically college students don't really question other people's actions much because so many people do weird, random things. And college will probably go by faster than high school because you are enrolling in classes that you supposedly enjoy, but if you're not enjoying your college experience, it can be a long haul. 4 years is 4 years, it's what you make of it that determines how long it feels like.
