Just a thought check the inlet manifold for leaks. Try by running the motor spray a bit of aerostart or wd40 around the manifold area, if it revs up then there is a leak somewhere. The engine is under load when lifting the tynes and steering, an air leak will cause the motor to run lean and pop under load. More so with EFI engines bt also with carby engines as well.

Your carb is gunky up from bad gas most likely.
Anytime an engine will run for a bit after putting gas into the carb, you are pretty well assured that it's the carb.
Remove and clean the carb paying special attention that all the little orifices are open by spraying carb cleaner into them.

Cam timing requires engine disassembly on small engines and it's either right or wrong.
You could be off on ignition timing if you sheared the key on the flywheel which then requires the flywheel to be removed to replace the key.
Make sure it's not something simple before you go deeper into the problem. Gas/fuel delivery, dirty carb, bad spark plug, all the safeties not made.

easy enough to ck---pull flywheel that way you can eliminate it or fix it--also ck to see if it's been apart before by the marks on the screws/bolts--if so there may be other underlying issues--it one of those things that you have to be methodical when dealing with an unknown problem/operator etc etc----other thoughts valve hanging up or missing--broken cam---I could go on and on but you should get the pix
