This appears to be a Shimano Exage rod. Pl look at the lower end of the rod. You will see Max Lure weight. Mostly like say 5oz, 2oz, etc. The sinker plus bait must be less than this weight.

The easiest way is to turn the rod over. Not all reels are ambidextrous. If there is a similar cap on the other side of the reel, then it is likely. You have to undo the screws and split the casing, and then turn everything around. A local fishing tackle shop would do it for you free of charge.

If its worth the money go to where you bought it and get the name of where it was made and follow up from there. I feel it won't be worth your while. I could not get parts for mine. I put in my junk box.
