the valve is a safety valve to release pressure that gets too high
the action is by the weight of the valve itself sitting over a small opening
as pressure is generated by resistance to flow, that small opening area has to have enough pressure ( psi /surface area) to overcome the resistance to flow ( the weight of the valve body)
when that happens there is a brief loss of pressure and then the valve reseats and the cycle begins again
simple ,effective and safe
to relieve the pressure before opening the lid , remove the valve

T-Fal has a number of their pressure cooker manuals on the support page: . None are labeled the Clipso Easy. There are the Clipso, Clipso America and the Clipso Induction Compatible Pressure Cookers. On web sites advertising these models, they are all "Easy" pressure cookers with one-handed operation.

Please check the pressure cooker for a product number to find the correct manual. The different Clipso pressure cookers are very similar. The direct link to the Clipso manual is .

I hope this helps.
