Bodum Coffee Makers & Espresso Machines - Recent Questions, Troubleshooting & Support

The trick with any manual French Press coffee maker is to very slowly press the plunger down, after you've allowed the ground coffee to steep/brew for the time you prefer.

I've got an older French Press carafe and had my share of "bent" screens from being too quick when pressing. I finally learned that the slower I pressed the better the unit would survive and the better quality of coffee I'd get as a result.

French Press coffee is not a quick process, what with the boiling water and fresh ground coffee beans and the steeping/brewing dwell time needed to get the hot water infused with the coffee and the very slow pressing filtering process needed to extract the full flavor of the coffee from the ground coffee and water.

Take your time in pressing your coffee and enjoy the great, fresh taste from your efforts.

Hope you find this Very Helpful and best regards!

I had a similar problem and had a techo fix it.  He didn't charge - because the solution was real easy. Basically you have a blocked filter. The filter is at the base of the rear column. You need to unscrew the back plate on the column leading up to the head. Once unscrewed you'll find the filter somewhere at the base end. Remove filter wash, reinstall and screw the thing together. Should now run ok. Cheers
