I think with all the drivers you installed, you did not install the drivers for the switches. I wonder if there will be any drivers for that around, but you could try with Acer. Sure you did not install windows 8.1?

looking down on the keyboard the ctrl key is ALWAYS lowest row of keys, farthest to the left. It may have something else written on it but it is there. A second ctrl key is 3rd from the right side of the space bar.

Are you 100% sure? I have Googled the details about the laptop you have given and looked at what should be the keyboard for that model, you should have a "ctrl" in the usual place according to my research.
