Defrost does not seem to be kicking in as it should. The coil is not frozen up yet, but the outsides are freezing over, and inside the outer unit walls is a sheet of ice. The unit is still kicking on and heating, but seems to be taxing it harder , and air gets cooler. When the repairman comes, hits the defrost, says the coils are fine and it's working as it should. The unit works wonderfully for about 12 hours until it starts frosting over again and we begin the cycle all over again. Is this normal or is the defrost switch failing? Our first heat pump worked great for 25 years....this is a new unit, so naturally a little concerned. It's a new Rheem Heat Pump, Model N.
