I have exactly the same problem. It started after I had taken apart my camera because of the E15 problem (balck screen saying "E15" and absolutely no reaction when pressing any buttons besides the apperance of "E15"). I didn't have a problem with the flash before taking it apart. Well, I was so happy when my camera worked again that I decided to just accept the not working flash since I don't like pictures with flash anyways. I automatic modus, I just turned the flash off manually and took pics that way. Now I demaged my LCD-display and just ordered a new one. I will take my camera apart again and if I can fix the flash, I'll let you know what I did. Unfortunately, solution number 1 seems a bit too easy. It's nothing about read eyes ot turning the flash on. My guess is that the flash is either disconnected or broken!

    Blessings,
    maria/Germany

An ideea would be pressing the button a little bit harder and a little bit longer. Most of the cameras have that orange light before the flash(that appears when you press harder on the button) to reduce the red-eye effect in the pictures.
If this doesn't work, look carefully in the manual or the settings of your camera and try to find an option that turns on the flash. Also the type of the picture(indoor, sunny, night etc) can automatically disable the flash.
As a last resort, here is the camera's manual

This sounds like a flash issue.
From page 64 of the user manual, make sure that you have the flash enabled on the camera. Page 64 shows you how to enable and disable the flash. Most likely, the flash was turned-off by mistake and is causing your issue.
If the flash is enabled and you're still having a problem, then there's a good chance that the flash feature has failed on your camera and will need to be repaired.

Flash Does not work. canon sd1000

This happened to my SD1000 and I followed the step by step instructions shown here:
http://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Replacing+Canon+PowerShot+SD1000+Broken+Flash+Unit/7778/1

and when I got to step 15, I found that the small plug that connects the flash to the camera body had been disconnected when the camera had been dropped. I simply pressed the connection back in tight and reassembled the camera - and it works. Maybe this happened to yours too??

How do I turn off the flash for the canon powershot a630?

First of all, the flash can not be turned off in "Auto" mode. You can turn it off in any mode other than Auto. Would recommend Program "P" mode, which is very similar to Auto, but allows you to modify certain minor items such as flash and white balance.

Rotate your mode dial to "P", then press the button on the back with the "lightning bolt" icon. Press until the lightning bolt with a slash shows up on your LCD screen. The flash is now turned off in Program mode. Try taking a picture.

Remember, if in low light conditions you'll need to keep the camera extra steady without flash to get a clear picture. Recommend placing the camera on a table or chair (or even better, use a tripod), then using its autotimer to snap the picture.

Black screen problem with Canon PowerShot SD 750

Did you accidentally press the DISP button on the back of your camera? This manually turns the screen on and off to save batteries. Try pressing this button one more time to see if it turns the screen back on.

Canon A540 flash charge not holding

Some of The Canon Powershot A530 and A540 cameras are subject to a advisory recall. Seems that a small spring on the battery compartment door can short out the batteries. Suspect this of yours, in that you mention that your batteries aren't lasting long. If your camera is on the list, Canon should fix this for you for free, including free shipping both ways. This is regardless of your camera's warranty status. Please check the following two links for more info:
