Question about Dell Dimension 2400 PC Desktop

1 Answer

Monitor fault our monitor has started with an unusual fault. it comes on for 1s and then goes off. To see the screen again, you need to turn the monitor off and then back on again and the images comes back but again only for 1 or 2 seconds. It is a very good picture but obviously you cannot work with a screen that keeps going off. We have tried a borrowed monitor and it works, it is not the computer and it is not the lead... any ideas? Thanks for getting back to us. Cheers

Replace it.. new monitors are cheap. Especially CRT monitors, you can find used one's all over the place.

You need to send the monitor back to manufacturer and ask for a replacement assuming that your monitor is still under warranty or return period..

Every time I unplug my Panasonic or the power goes out my tv won't turn on for a couple days. Then it'll work till we unplug it again or the power goes out again

If your LCD TV or monitor has stopped working, or is displaying one of the following symptoms, then it's a candidate for some new capacitors
- Flickering screen
- Screen image disappears after several seconds
- Dim screen
- Slow start
- Power LED on, but no picture
- Unusual colors and/or lines
The primary cause of LCD TV and monitor failure is caused by faulty capacitors. You can examine the capacitors in your LCD TV or monitor and actually see if they are bad.
If they appear bulged on top, then they need to be replaced.
New capacitors will solve a host of problems in LCD monitors and TV's and will extend the life of your monitor or TV by several years.
?
?Check the cables, connectors and connections.

Take it to a repair shop.

Black screen after 1s

This is a common symptom of a unit with a bad power supply. When the parts called capacitors start to fail they can't hold a charge which prevents the power supply from maintaining a steady output voltage so the monitor goes black. This power problem is an easy repair. If you replace the bad capacitors on the power supply board then your monitor will be back up and running again. Here is a link to information on the capacitors you will need for the repair.

My AOC screen goes black after about a few seconds after booting.

Hello,

The picture board on your monitor is bad, since it goes off after few seconds and the power led or button is on, it means the picture board of your monitor has developed fault.

The best thing for you to do now is to take the monitor to a local repairer or service center within your vicinity to help with the replacement of the picture board because the fault is not something you can fix yourself, in order not to complicate issues.

Take care.

Dell E173FP Screen blinking red, green, blue, white

The monitor is probably on protection.

To start unplug monitor from power and from computer and test computer with different monitor to find out if it is monitor or computer fault.

If it is computer fault and no video signal , then test:

  • Video cable.
  • Video adapter on PC (sometimes integrated on motherboard)
  • Motherboard.

If it is monitor fault , then the monitor is on protection.

When on protection you keep having a flashing led on front of the monitor , and monitor turning off by itself after a while, that indicates a fault condition.

The flashing light indicates a diagnostic state called protection.
When the Monitor goes on protection there are only two possible causes.

1The internal circuits are jammed because of electrostatic charges accumulating on capacitors, or because of a wrong voltage read by the main chip on your monitor controller board. this started the protection circuit.

2 The protection circuit detected a wrong voltage or a broken contact, identified an internal fault and kicked in , starting the flashing light.

If you are in situation one, then the monitor will reset just unplugging power cord for one or two hours, sometimes even minutes.

If you are in situation 2 , then there is an internal fault.

Common faults that can occur are a blown capacitor on power board, faulty inverter board, faulty input board, or a fault on LCD Digital Controller board.

Check also the video cable or any external connection cable, if the cable is shorting, or the connector is bad, you can get same flashing state because of the video cable.

Try moving the video cable, and if the cable is not built in, then also try a replacement cable.

If under warranty contact the manufacturer ringing the number on the user manual

If you want to repair at your own expenses, just locate any good qualified repairer.

Your backlight might be dead. Try using a flashlight to see if you can see a screen
when it turns black. If you can, its a backlight problem. What model of screen do you have?

Faulty monitor

This is most probably cause by one or more Faulty Electrolytic Capacitors, I find these are the MOST commonest form of "Fault" in these LCD's TFT's units. I ususally simply replace "On Spec" all High Value Electros, in fact ALL Electro's are suspect and often I just "Shotgun" and replace 'em all. Usually fixes all problems. Always use High Temperature Caps.
