Yes, I have the same problem. When I start the camcorder it doesn't show the screen (Flickers/rolls). Sometime, after 3-4 trys, it starts. I have never dorpped/bumped it anywhere.

SAME PROBLEM!! Used one time and not been out of box but for that time and now Sony wants over $100 to fix!
Does anyone have any ideas to try to fix it? It like the vertical hold is out and pic is rolling with interference.....

I have the same problem! And Sony does want $261.00 + to fix it. Jeez, it looks like we all picked a bad camera. My LCD screen is mostly black with horizontal, wiggly lines that move. There is no discernible image, but it looks like the rest of it works. How can I fix this or what is wrong with it that someone else can fix?

Sony Handycam DCR-SR42 Camcorder . The screen is rolling from the top to the bottom

I also have the exact same screen rolling problem like everyone else. You would think Sony would test a product more vigorously before releasing it to the public.

  • Anonymous Nov 23, 2008

I have the same problem..I thought I did it, but I take very good care of it...Sometimes it does it and it will stop all on its on.

  • Anonymous Nov 23, 2008

Mines does it on its own and will stop whenever it wants.I thought it was my fault and now I see its just the camcorder.

I have the same rolling screen problem, it is driving me crazy it will roll and then for some unknown reason stop then start rolling again. Is there any solution to this? Please post if possible, thank you

  • jk-s Dec 06, 2008

Screen rolls when camcorder is on. Would briefly stop is the flap was gently wiggle back and forth. Suggest that a connection is loose or defective. Screen stops rolling completely is flap is reversed and placed flatly against body of camera with screen pointing away from camcorder body.

Here is the solution to rolling view screen. First, set your camcorder in the cradle or station and it's plugged in. Secondly, press the icon that looks like a home. At the bottom of the screen select the icon that looks like the tool box (far right side). Next, you will get one screen with 4 options on the first page, and if you select the down arrow you will get to "General Set". Then select "calibration" and touch the x's when the camcorder prompts you to. It worked for me and it should for you. Don't bring your unit in for repair, just send me a best wish and we'll call it even... :) Good Luck!

Sorted my rolling screen problem within 5 minutes of trying.! Many thanks for the advice. Most difficult part was clicking the down arrow, but got it eventually when I actually found out where it was. Many thanks again!

I've got the same problem. It looks like the cable connecting the lcd screen and the camcorder may be damaged.

Have a look at this article:

The part that this article talks about can be found in Nexttronics or the Partstore.

HOWEVER: I don't know if the same part is used in the DCR-SR42. Can anyone else confirm this or not?

Also, it looks very difficult to replace the cable. Has anyone done this? How difficult is it?

The screen falls from top to bottom over and over again. like it is on a wheel of some sort. Thats the best description I can come up with. How can you fix this without going to sony?

Samsung scl901 camcorder screen "rolls" on lcd

Possible that there is loss of sync from the signal and so it is unstable on both the viewfinder and the LCD display. This can be a fault on the main board- processing section. It can also be related to weak passive components or development of moisture. Leave the camera ON for few hours , place it on a warm surface - near to a table lamp and see if the fault changes. If so you need to keep using the camera often to keep the circuits active.

Picture in veiw finding keeps rolling so cant see what i am video

As you have noticed, this is not a battery problem but rather a screen problem(the view finder LCD screen) If the image is crisp and clear even though its rolling I would assume that the LCD screen connectors have come loose and can be resolved by taking them off and re-connecting them firmly. Make sure to turn off the camcorder before atttempting the repair just in case you want to do this yourself. I strongly advice you take professional help in fixing it.

Feel free to post back if you need more help.
