Question about Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-P72 Digital Camera

1 Answer

Just bought a Sony DSC-P72, had a couple questions!!

Hey, this is my first real digital camera! I read a bunch of reviews and decided to go w/ the P72! Im really happy w/ it so far. I use it probly 90% for shooting pictures of my truck and 10% for misc. stuff. I have run into a small problem and wondered if somebody on here could help!! When I take pictures of my truck, I usually just leave it on auto, but Ive noticed it seems like part of the picture will be clear and crisp and one side will be kind of blurry and out of focus, why is that? I usually take the pictures in 1.2 not the highest 3.1! Am I doing something wrong? what could i do to correct this problem?? If you would like to see an example, Ill post one on my webpage here, http://www.freewebs.com/z71mudder ! Look under Sample Picture!! Thanks for the help, Will

For some reason the whole image is just a little out of focus. It's beyond "soft". Maybe there's some film on the lens or maybe you are inducing the slightest amount of camera shake. Whatever it is, it seems to sharpen up well (unlike most camera shake). Notice that even the people in the BG sharpened up nicely. I know zero about this camera. I'd advise you to take some shots of some detailed, contrasty type subjects and see if you get better focus. If not the camera may need repair. Or, maybe both of us are expecting too much, image sharpness-wise, out of this camera.

I have a cybershot DSC-P72, lens doesnt open anymore, batteries are ok. picture review, and setup work ok.For a while it would open then close straight away, but not anymore.

This camera needs really strong batteries. Even if the batteries work great in other devices they might not work in this camera. Buy some FRESH (yes check the date and get the ones that will expire the latest) Alkaline Batteries and give it a try. Rechargeable (NiCad) batteries never worked for me. This is the very reason I got rid of my P92 (same camera with higher 5.1m pixel optics)

I have Fujifilm FinePix A360, and I couldn't find where to put the paper. I tried several different places, but none of them seemed to work. I have the same problem...the green light goes on, then immediately goes back off. The screen begins to turn on, and then turns off. Any help with explaining the aforesaid solution, or any other way that I could try?

Turning the camera on

I have had this problem with both a DSC-P72 and a DSC-P92 (same camera but 5 Mega pixel) They do need real good batteries, when the camera shut’s down I can run MP3 players or flashlights with those batteries for quit a while before those devices are dead.

I was traveling overseas once and installed “fresh” carbon batteries and the camera wouldn’t work at all. I had no photos on that trip until I found some alkaline batteries.

I even have bought 2 “dead” cameras to find that they work fine with REALLY GOOD batteries. So try it again before dumping the camera.

Question about the DSC-P72

Yes, that is normal for the P72 to black out. I only know from experience of playing with it, not from a technical reason for it, but if I had to make an educated guess I would say it's because you're not getting as much power out of AA's as you do from a lithium-ion (like the one you have in your s85), therefore it takes longer, and most likely all of the power it can put out to get that flash charged; it does take a lot of power, as you probably know after about 40-50 shots you're through a set of AA's. As for the short picture review delay after shooting, also normal from what I've seen; it seems like the newer Sony cameras, especially the lower priced models have a very short review period. Of course, as was mentioned you can always just press the the left button out of the four buttons centered around the enter button in order to do a quick review. I personally don't own the P72, so if one of you P72 owners out there experiences something different, we can find out, but I think it's safe to assume your camera is acting quite normally.

Dsc-P72 picture quaility

The only thing you missed, unfortunately is the camera you should've bought. The p72 is riddled with problems. Noisy high ISO shots, colours too hot, Vignetting and downright poor quality pictures compared to cameras with less Megapixels. A lot of people swear by them but they are usually people who've never owned any other camera. Those color casts and tinted shots are very offputting to someone with more scope in Digital cameras. I'm not totally condemning the p72 but there are many, many cameras of the same format which leave it for dead. BMW
