Hi,

Usually a turning off of the set that is the receiver fault will indicate a bad transistor in the amplification section. I suspect that the control circuit is sensing a fluctuation in the power supply and going in to protect mode. (assuming that the protect circuit itself is working properly) If a voltage is too high the unit will go in to protect mode to prevent damage to the speakers and the rest of the unit. I would take the unit in to a local repair shop and get a estimate of repair charges. Expect a 60 to 80 dollar repair charge depending on how many parts need to be replaced and what the repair labor rate is in your area.

Hoping this will help to solve the problem of the receiver...

No audio after recording from sat. Reciever

Double-check your input cables from the receiver to the LG 389. Do you have the sat. receiver AV out connected to the front AV In on the LG DRT389? Make sure that you haven't mixed up the L and R audio connections on either side. (I've done something similar with RCA cables myself.) Next, try a different set of cables.

If that doesn't work, there may be a problem with the audio jacks on either your receiver or the 389. To check, plug the AV cables from the Sat. Receiver directly into the TV. If you have sound and video, then the input jacks on the recorder may be damaged.

Try using another input. (It looks like some models have the SCART input; you may need to set the input source in the menu under AV2 Decoder.)

The fact that you have audio output on USB and DVD's means that cables/connections between the LG289 and the TV are fine.

I hope this helps. Please add a comment with the details of which AV port you are using on the LG389 for additional assistance.

Xbox elite connected to TV thru HDMI works fine, but connected via bcs-fs500 receiver = no audio or video Cable tv through receiver works fine Have tried cable tv through receiver inputs HDMI 1 and 2...

Hook your Xbox to tv via HDMI, then hook TV to reciever through digital optical or composite cables. If you try to get your picture through receiver first, you may get picture and sound but, sound may be delayed and picture might not be the best. Bettter to run through tv first then provide sound to receiver.

Connected denon avr 1800 reciever to new hd tv. i cant find my reciever manual. how do i set the reciever to play the tv sound?

If you connect your tv's audio output to the reciever's audio input in the (TVor video section) using audio cables only---red & black or red & white) then select TV or Video on the front of the reciever depending on which connection on the back that you use it should work fine!!

I have an LG LED TV and Samsung 5.1 Surround sound and when it comes to Blu Ray movies I get sound, but I don't get the surround sound through cable or XBOX 360, the only time I do is through the TV when...

the very best and easiest solution is have every input into your tv, and your TVs audio out (RCA/Optical) into your reciever. this is a variable audio (Meaning you can only listen to your reciever with your TVs audio up) or you can turn off the audio completely in your TVs soiund properties.

hope that helped :) -Jordon

XBox 360 to Reciever to TV via HDMI no sound

I recently got the same receiver and had the same problem. Here's what I was told - and it worked for me:

Even though HDMI cables carry audio and video, for whatever reason this reciever won't accept audio through hdmi. Apparently only much more expensive recievers carry audio through hdmi. What you have to do is run optical audio cables from your xbox, cable box, dvd player or other video device to the optical inputs on the back of the reciver. Then you customize the scene buttons to match your video and audio inputs.

You can get these optical cables pretty cheap on line or even at target. Don't get ripped off by Best Buy for these cables. I love best buy, but they rip off on cables!

This receiver is great - once I got it all figured out and running right I've loved it! Hope everything works out for you!

No Sound when I play DVD's

The optical connection on the TV is most likely an input, not an output. You need to connect the Xbox to the receiver, then the TV. If the receiver does not have a HDMI input, use another audio or digital out from the Xbox to the receiver.
