Question about Flat Panel Televisions

1 Answer

Samsung Model HLP5063wx/xaa

My television has audio and no picture it went out when i was watching it the tint of the picture got a pink tone to it and then went out shut it down by unplugging it waited and started it back up it was working and then it started to deteriorate mostly static/fuzzy picture. restarted and it worked for an hour or so. Next mornig no picture just sound I hear some whining louder than before but it doesn't seem to be as loud as most people describe when their color whells go bad. Can they make just a little noise? bulb lights up initially but I hear the whine and then the bulb shuts down. I guessed the colorwheel but I am not sure. What do u think? I would hate to take it to a tech if it is just a color wheel i had the old one out spun it a little and it spun but the bearing seemed a little rough so replacing it isn't a problem. if it is more complicated than that i'll take it to the tech.

I have a color wheel on order and the 3 led lights blink and it's hard to tell if the TV is shutting down or not when there is no picture but It seems to get started and just run with no picture. If there is an issue with the colorwheel is there a safety or shut off feature for the bulb? Initially the bulb lights and then shuts down in about 5 seconds or so.

What are the indicator leds on the front doing? if all 3 leds are blinking then it's probably the color wheel ,lamp or the dmd board, if you turn it on and it goes through a series of shut downs then the leds blink, it's probably the lamp or dmd board.

Red Tint on Screen

This is normal and is a color calibration issue.

For correct color, NEVER use the "WARM" setting. Why? Too red. You cannot get REALISTIC or ACCURATE color using the "Warm" setting.

Since we are speaking of Samsung, first avoid the "Flesh Tone" adjustment. When things are set correctly there is no need for this adjustment. It is a quick fix and not for the "discerning eye".

1. First, access the "Color Temperature" menu. From here select "Cool2" or the coolest temperature setting.

Note: For Samsung use "Cool2", or if not available, "Cool1". Samsung has inadvertently increased calibration confusion by issueing TVs that have just "Cool1", and TVs that have both "Cool1" and "Cool2" :0[

For other brands, use "Cool", or "High", or "+6500k". Anything lower artificially reddens the picture and compromises detail.

2. Now return to the color settings and reduce "Color" to between 30 and 40 (on a 100 scale). The sweet spot is just near the place where the color rapidly washes out.

3. To round out the color palette, move to the "Tint" adjustment and ADD a couple (3-5) clicks to the GREEN.

Adding the touch of green is what is needed to take out the last bit of "pink" and will make all the tones and all colors display properly.

I hope this helps!

My samsung lcd hdtv's tv picture seems to be greenand pink tones

Mainboard damaged and need to be replaced, if under warranty, call in for service, if not try ebay to get a general picture of price range.

You will need your product code to get the board and it is located in the back of the Tv, next to serial number.

it depends on what your using it for, adjust colour tones to what you think looks natural, contrast between 80-90, keep sharpness below 30. just have a play around till you find what best suits the source material.
