Boiler dying - FrancisFrancis! X5 Espresso Machine

    Spants,
You and I do have the same machine. If the boiler is still heating, what exactly needs replacement? Is it the coils that corroded on the Saeco heating element, item 188150351, that you referred to in the other post? Or is there some other part that corroded? I really appreciate your help and advice. Thanks very much for sharing.

Use caution - assuming yours is the same as my design, your (very) minimal description may mean that your heating element is corroded through to the water in the boiler, and still functioning only by completing the circuit through your machine's ground wire. Low power results because you're getting a high-resistance return path, only "connecting" to the remaining portion of the heating element, and going through fresh water, which isn't that good of a conductor. The machine's metal case becomes the return path for the heating power, and the thermostat becomes irrelevant in this situation - the only thing preventing a meltdown is a cheesy little snap-disc temp cutout.

If you're comfortable with some live electrical work, the quickest (NOTE: momentarily hazardous!) test for this would be to use a three-to-two-wire "grounding adapter" on your plug, so you'd deliberately be taking OUT that ground path. The idea is to remove the ground ONLY momentarily, then use a test-light or voltmeter to check between any shiny metal part of the case and a good ground, like your water pipe or faucet. If that test-light glows, the element has indeed burned through.

Replacement ain't easy - and the original part is not sold to consumers, so you'd have to send the machine in for repairs - very expensive, to the point where it's not likely to be worthwhile, I expect. See related post on using a Saeco element to replace it if you're game.

Is this a crappy design? YES. Crappy at least in the sense that it's dangerous. But hey, it looks cool, and that's the important thing.

would say look for a birds nest. don't know these but you need air / fuel and spark. now you have the spark and the fuel but would seam you keep losing the air. or it could be over doing it with the fuel.

Baxi duo-tec boiler - when water comes on flame roars up. When i put the heating on the flames roar for 5 minutes then die down.

is the boiler a combi if so have you checked the pressure. it needs to be at 1.5 bar 2 bar at the most . also check that the heat the boiler is producing is completeing the circuit on the heating if you have access to the pipe work there should be 2 or 3 22mm copper pipes. now turn the heating on and check which one is getting warm. the one that is is your flow and in about 2 to 3 min there should be one more pipe getting hot let me no if this is the case

Sir, LA CIMBALI 39 DOASTAROM 3 GROUP MACHINE MOTHER BOARD BROKEN Sir, We try to install the new mother board, most of the things are working, the boiler is heating up, but when we turned on the...

hi. Im not sure excactly what is going on with your explaination about your machine, but I gather the the original mother board has died, and you have replaced it with a new one. It sounds like you have a water fill issue with your machine. If the boiler doesn't have enough water in it, then the pc board will shut the machine down. Ive never worked on a m39, but they are from the Faema corporation, and Faema/ La Cimbali electronics canbe very complicated. Dont now why they make such complicated electrics, cause there are hundreds of other brands with simple electrics.
If your boiler was empty, then the water fill cycle might be a timed cycle, and is shuting down before the water level has reached the water level probe inside the boiler. If this is the case, then once it has stopped, turn the machine off, wait 10sec, then turn it back on again and let it start the fill cycle over. You may have to repeat this a number of times until it has reached the water level probe inside the boiler. Some machines are designed to have a slow water fill, because when you draw hot water from the boiler for making tea, fresh cold water is pumped back into the boiler to replace what you have taken out, and if it fills too quick, then your steam pressure drops. So by filling slower, the machine will maintain its steam pressure. Good idea in theroy, but its only good for cafes that do 300 coffees per hour.
Im hoping that your machine is configered this way, cause it will probably just have to be turned on a few times until it has reached the water level probe as I explined in the begining. If you have a sight glass, you can check to see how high your water level is. If your level is correct, and its still not working right, then id recomend calling a repairer. There are number of things that could be wrong, causing your board to die. Faulty solenoids. switches, touch pads, pressure switches can cause main board issues. Hope all this helps with getting your machine working properly. Dazza Repairer

I'm working on the same problem, I need someone who reads technical swiss-german to help. There is a pump on the bottom right that drives cold water into the boiler. The connector on the bottom of the boiler (brass to vinyl plastic) came apart on mine. On a german language expresso maker website there are several parts that address this problem, the difficulty I'm having is figuring out which part fits tthe boiler I have as apparently this is a problem on serveral version and there have been re-designed connectors (mine doesn't look exactly like the one in the picture

Steamer shoots water in spurts instead of steaming.

Sounds like the water level in the boiler is too high. Try adjusting the level probe.

Breville 800esxl,won't stop pumping even in standby.

1- Are you using distilled water? If yes then the machine cannot sense the water level in the boiler.
2- Where is the water that is being pumped going? If it is coming out the drain tray, then the solenoid for the group needs to be replaced.
If it is coming off the top of the boiler, Then the level probe is calling for water, in which case you will have to remove probe and clean with a wire brush.
