I have the same problem, basically. I have the Creative Labs Zen Vision M, 30GB. Has worked fine for the first year. I bought a charger (non original manufacturer) that charges it from the wall. When I plugged it in, the charging symbol looked weird, but I let it go... came back an hour later, unplugged from the wall and it won't turn on at all now. Worked fine just before that. I have tried to reset with a pin in the tiny hole, but no response. I tried to charge it the "normal way" via the original manaufacturer's USB cable and my computer does not respond to it. Nothing happens. AHHH!!! Did the cord I bought to charge it from the wall fry it?! It says it was specifically for the Zen VIsion M. I realize that it was sort of a risk, but figured it would be fine. Was I wrong?! Is there a way to fix it? I don't even mind sending it in and paying a little... but if there is something else I can do?! Please HELP!!!!

Hello,

Have any of you tried to put it into Recovery Mode? Put a paperclip in the Reset hole while holding the power button in the On position. Then release the paperclip and continue to hold the power button until it goes to the Recovery Mode screen. You should at this point try Format and Scan Disk/Cleanup, then Reboot. If the screen is still black at this point, there could be a hardware failure.

    Usually
this problem is due to the firmware. If you upgrade the firmware to version
    1.62.02
    , this problem
usually will disappear. The older firmwares have problems in recognizing the
battery and allowing the battery to power the unit.

Here is what you'll need to do to save your Zen: you will need a charger for
the operation. I recommend buying a brand new charger from the Creative
    Labs website
    or a used one here,
instead of getting an aftermarket one off Ebay. Aftermarket ones tend to cause
problems or fail to work altogether.

    Plug
in the wall charger and USB cable at the same time. Your Zen should power on when
connected the charger. Once it is powered on, connect the USB cable to your
    computer.

If your Zen does not power on when connected to the charger, your unit is dead
and its time to replace it or get the motherboard replaced via one of the
Repair services offered on this website.

    Download
    the firmware
to your PC, then reboot your PC and connect the Zen via
USB cable. Open the firmware icon to begin the download.

If the upgrade button on the firmware window is not available, it is also time
to replace your motherboard due to corruption of a chip on the board.

Creative Zen M:vision - can't turn on/off, permanent blue light

Well, i didn't charge mine over night, was listening to it in the evening while doing some chores and all of a sudden it stopped playing, Blank screen and permanent Blue light. I tried to turn if off but it didn't respond so i left it. In the morning, it went off itself (guess the battery was low). So i connected to the computer and inserted the ZEN CD. As i was exploring the CD looking for a solution, then all of a sudden the screen came up with a note "Rebuilding..." after 5 secs it came on. With all my files intact! I hope this wud be helpful, You could give it a shot, after all there's nothing to loose!

If you have windows set to do automatic updates, you most likely had a windows update installed that caused this conflict with Win Media Player 11. No fix has been posted by Microsoft yet, so the only workaround is to Uninstall/Rollback Windows Media Player 11. Goto <Control Panel<Add/Remove Programs and remove Windows Media Player 11. Follow prompts, restart computer when prompted to. Also uninstall Windows Media Player 11 Runtime application following same procedure above.
This will roll your Windows Media Player back to version 10 or 9, whichever you had installed prior to version 11. You will need to re-configure Windows Media Player again.

Your Zen should now be recognized by WMP and Creative software. You probably need to upgrade your firmware at this point, follow the instructions on upgrading your firmware, and you should be good to go.

This is a windows problem, not a creative problem. Dont blame Creative for the screwed up hotfixes that Microsoft puts out on a regular basi

Dead Creative Zen M

Usually this problem is due to the firmware. When the firmware is updated to version 1.62.02, this problem usually will be corrected. The older firmwares have problems in recognizing the battery and allowing the battery to power the unit.

You will need a wall/AC charger for the operation. Plug in the wall charger and USB cable at the same time. Your Zen should power on when connected to direct AC power via the wall charger. Once it is powered on, connect the USB cable to your computer. Then begin the firmware download.

If your Zen does not power on when connected to the wall charger, your unit is dead and its time to replace it or get the motherboard replaced via one of the Repair services offered on this website.

If the upgrade button on the firmware window is not available, it is also time to replace your motherboard due to corruption of a chip on the board.

My mp3 player wont work

ok! easy solution for you^^ 1) Make sure your Zen is powered OFF. if the blue light is on and won't turn off, here's what you do: set the hold button at the top of the player to the ORANGE position, then hold your power button for 3 seconds. the keypad will flash and your player will power down. 2) push in the reset button with a pin or other fine implement. the reset button is located on the bottom of the unit, right next to the connector. your player should power up as normal now. charge it fully! your computer should be able to read it during it's charge as long as you leave it powered on^^ I hope this helps you^^
