Upon attempting to wash a normal load (not over-loaded or heavily soiled) I am encountering the error message "dr" when the door appears to be closed properly and the drain unclogged. There is no history of prior difficulties. Have you any suggestions? The washing cycle will not begin for me at all. Your input will be much appreciated. All my best to you, Gwen

The switch that is closed whenn the door is properly closed is not closing and preventing the unit from work. You may need a latch assembly if yours is not working correctly. Go to site for part(s)

Sounds like the water seal is damaged and the leaking water has damaged the top bearing which is just below the water seal. You will need to have the hub & seal kit replaced.

SOURCE: Whirlpool Ultimate Care II Quiet Wash - Wash Cycle not holding water

Since your washer worked fine while in Germany and now is exhibiting this problem at your new home, you may want to double check how it was installed. I suspect you may have a problem known as "siphoning". The following link explains:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r587481-prevent_washer_siphoning

This could be a simple situation where the drain line on the washer is not installed correctly. There are minimum height and length requirments on the drain line. In addition, make sure the stand pipe you have the drain hose inserted in has a proper air gap to allow draining. All of this is explained in the link provided.

I hope this information is helpful to you. The majority of the situations arise from improper installation and is not an operaitonal problem with the washer. If, however, you double check everything and still have problems, please post back and let me know.

SOURCE: whirlpool duet hf error

This error code indicates a water supply problem.
Are both the hot and cold water faucets turned on?
Turn on the water. Check the household faucets to see if the hot and cold water faucets are turned on. Completely open both faucets for proper fill.
NOTE: Both hot and cold water must be connected to the washer and turned on; the washer will not properly operate with only one incoming source of water.

Are the water inlet hoses kinked?
Straighten the water inlet hoses.
Are the water inlet valve screens on the washer clogged?

Turn off the water and remove inlet hoses from the inlet valves in the back of the washer. Inside the inlet valves are screens. Remove any accumulated film or particles from the screens. Reinstall hoses, turn on water, and check for leaks. See the Installation Instructions for details; find them by entering your model number in the search tool below.
fl_hot_cold_back_of_washer.jpg Is the water pressure less than 10 psi?
If the water pressure is too low, the washer may not properly operate. To find out your exact pounds-per-square-inch (psi) value, contact your local water utility company.
Are you using HE High Efficiency detergent?
Use only HE High Efficiency detergent. Using non-HE detergent, or more than the manufacturer's recommended amount of detergent, can cause excessive suds. The excess suds can prevent the washer from detecting the incoming water.
Concentrated detergents labeled 2x and higher will require a small amount of detergent based on load size. Always follow the manufacturer's recommendations.

See also: Why HE High Efficiency detergent is required.
Are you using flood-preventing inlet hoses that can shut off the water to the washer?

These hoses have a valve inside that will close if the water pressure is higher than two gallons per minute; this will shut off the water to the washer. If one of these hoses becomes loose, the water flow through the hose will increase and close the valve inside the hose, which will shut off water to the washer to prevent a possible leak or flood. If the hose is not loose, try taking the hoses back to the store for a replacement set.

To remove the error display, press Pause/Cancel twice.

If Pause/Cancel does not work:

  1. Unplug the washer or disconnect the power for one minute.
  2. Plug in the washer or reconnect the power.
  3. Re-select the cycle and press Start.
NOTES:
  • On some washers, when the washer is started for the first time after this error code, it will begin to drain. You will not be able to pause or cancel the cycle for about 8 minutes while it drains. This is normal.
  • If the error remains on the display, and all of the other conditions above have been checked, call for service.

SOURCE: our hoover ultra care 1300 large load washing machine spin fault

The most common cause of machines stopping mid cycle is not draining. Your machine should have a filter behind the kick plate at the bottom.
If this is not the case please post back for further assistance.

Maytag MAH5500BWW 27 Inch Front-Load Washer. The door shows it's locked but it's not locked. What causes that please?

Much better! Question edited for clarity, but not so much as the last one :>D

Check the switch operation with a multimeter. You are testing for continuity with door open and no continuity with door closed or vice versa depending on how they wired it.

Or you have a failed control board or a bad capacitor on it. The dim lights are the clue on that one.

I'm getting a door error "dr" on my ATF6700SF0 washer. How can I determine whether to replace the door lock assembly or the control board?

Hi Curt, this is AP

I understand you are having trouble with an error code on your Frigidaire front load washer. On your particular model, ATF6700FS, the error code "DR" indicates that the door is open or there is a problem with the door. If you know the door is not open you should check the door switch and wiring. If you need assistance with replacing the door switch I would recommend contacting an authorized technician in your area. I hope this information proves helpful to you, thank you for the post.

Thanks,

Affinity frigidare front load washer won't start. It beeps with message flashing (DR)

Hello zabbster - Typically the DR or DO error code indicates that the door switch is not closed. Make sure that the door lock is completely closed. If the door is closed, make sure the door latch is not broken. If the latch is broken, you may possibly need to replace the door lock switch.

Clothes not clean after washing

Were the settings appropriate for the clothing?
The settings on the machine should be set properly for the load. Different fabric types require different wash/rinse temperatures, spin speeds, and wash times. Always follow the instructions printed on the fabric care label. The soil level needs to be set in accordance with the load type. Heavily soiled clothing will not come clean with a light soil level setting.
Was the proper detergent used?
If too much detergent is used, or non-HE detergent is used, the machine will not wash properly. Too many suds present during a wash decreases tumbling action and will not rinse out well. Furthermore, detergent residue built up in the machine over time will deposit extra detergent on clothes and deposit soil back into clothing.

Was the washer overloaded? If the machine is overloaded, the machine will not wash and rinse properly. When the washer is overloaded, the clothes have no room to tumble, and the cleaning performance of the washer is reduced. In addition, when the clothes are packed tightly inside the drum the detergent and water will not distribute evenly throughout the items.

Front loaders require regular maintenance to ensure optimum performance. If this maintenance is not followed, residue can accumulate in the drum resulting in detergent and soil being deposited back into clothing. This can also lead to odor and other issues. Perform the required maintenance regularly (once or twice a month).

Bravo washer spin problem; lights flashing SD appears. called advised to wash clean cycle and use HE detergent.

the "SD" code is for suds, you are using too much detergent, you generally only need about three teaspoons of detergent, more for heavily soiled or larger loads, the HE detergent is a high efficiency detergent that is low sudsing, the wrong detergent can also affect the quality of the spin cycle.
