Hello hiflyer1:

First thing with the usb items removed, go to control panel/ system/ usb ports. Here you will be able to see if the usb ports are correctly working.

You may need to re-install drivers for these ports or all USB.

If that is all okay, and you can see that the usb ports are working and seem to be set up correctly, then,...

You may need to test each item you connect to the usb.

But, I suspect some problem is with the usb internally. Drivers or not set correctly.
take care,

Biostar motherboard resumes power after shutdown

There is an option called Wake On Lan. Check your BIOS and disable that option. The name may differ, instead of WAN it may say PCI. Take a look.

The second part is the NIC. Look for wake up options. I'm logged in Windows right now and it has that options setting. So does iOS. I imagine so does Ubuntu. I'll check next time I reboot into Ubuntu.

I just bought an ASUS notebook but the USB cannot read any device what do i do?

Hi,Some USB devices are not APM/ACPI friendly and may not operate properly after resuming from Standby or Hibernation. Some of these steps may not apply to your computer. Test the attached USB device after performing each step.

1. Verify that a USB port and an operating system with USB support are being used to attach a USB interface external device to a ThinkPad system.

Note: The following is an example image of a ThinkPad system USB port
USB port

2. Verify that the latest BIOS and embedded controller for the ThinkPad system has been installed.

View the latest BIOS files for all ThinkPad systems(-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/BMOE-3VAM8Y.html)

3. Verify that USB is enabled in BIOS.
* For ThinkPad A, G, R, T, X and Z series systems

1. Turn on the computer.
2. While the "Press F1 for BIOS Setup Utility" or "To interrupt normal startup, press the blue Access IBM button" message is displayed at the lower left area of the screen, press the F1 key, blue Access IBM, or ThinkVantage button.
3. Select Config and then click USB. The window should list USB BIOS support as [Enabled].
For ThinkPad 600, 600E, 770, 770E/ED, 770X, and 770Z systems

1. Press and hold the F1 key and then turn on the computer. Hold the F1 key until the Easy-Setup menu appears. If a password prompt appears, type the correct password.
2. Select Config.
3. Select Initialize and then click OK.
4. Click Exit, click Restart, and then click OK to restart the system

4. Verify that the USB device and any required drivers were installed in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions.
This may require removing the USB device and the drivers, and then reinstalling the USB device and the latest drivers.

5. Verify the USB device works on another machine, if available.

6. Verify another USB device, if available, works on this machine.

7. Verify that the USB device is USB 1.1 or 2.0 compliant.
Plugging specific USB 1.1 compliant devices into a USB 2.0 compliant port will cause an error message dialog box to appear. That dialog box details that a non-high speed device has been attached to a high speed port. The device should function normally, but at a slower speed than if a 2.0 device is attached to 2.0 port. Most USB 1.1 devices will function normally in USB 2.0 ports.

8. Verify that external power is attached if required.
Some USB 2.0 devices will require additional power from external sources or an additional USB port to function correctly in USB 1.1 compliant computers.

9. Verify that the latest Microsoft Windows Service Pack has been installed for the operating system installed on the computer.
There are updates and fixes to USB 1.1 and USB 2.0 available in Service Packs.

10. If an operating system was installed from a retail CD, then refer to installing USB 2.0 support on ThinkPad systems.

11. Test the USB port for errors.
Run the PC Doctor diagnostics for all current ThinkPad systems. PC Doctor for DOS is available by pressing the F11 key or the blue Access button during startup to access the predesktop menu area. If these methods are not available for your system, then PC Doctor for DOS may be downloaded. This DOS version requires two or more floppy diskettes depending on the ThinkPad system.

12. If these steps have not solved your problem:
Refer to "Need more help?"

You could also try downloading an updated/fresh copy of the drivers for my specific model notebook from Asus's web site and just reinstall over the old ones.

And if you don't understand much about it, i would advice you take it back from where you bought it from and get a replacement if it's on guarantee...

Thanks for using fixya....

After startup my PC I got the BIOS screen stating in "Detecting IDE drives...".but it does not detect the drives and also not enter to the further startup configuration.please give a solution of this...

Shut down computer, disconnect from power outlet. disconnect all usb devices on the usb ports and just leave mouse and keyboard connected. disconnect harddrive cable from the motherboard and hard drive and reconnect cable again.

Restart system afterwards to see if the issue was resolved.

Should you have any other questions please just leave a comment.

Cheers~

0701 usb over current on hc/port error

I had the same problem on a toshiba satellite u400.
Usb over current on port ... blabla..
Please press F1 to resume or F12 to install.
F1 just ended up in a screen asking to press F2 or F12 which did nothing.
F12 did nothing.

Rebooting the pc ended in a black screen with a flickering HD symbol.

To be able to boot again on the BIOS I had to remove the battery and disconnect the plug.
Once It restarted booting on the error USB over current.

Si I took a USB mouse and tried to boot with the mouse plugged in on port , then another ... at the third port the PC booted normally with no error :)

Don't have any idea why it became faulty but it's now solved for me.

Power surge on usb port

Hi,
unless your a very competant motherboard components repairer.
this is beyond repair. i,d suggest taking it to a repair centre, where they will replace the motherboard. and unfortunately a large invoice to go with it. probably more cost effective to look at a replacement laptop.

Scanner comes on automatically at computer startup

I would suspect that you have something else attached to your computer that is causing the scanner to react.

Disconnect the USB cable from the scanner and restart the computer. After the computer has fully restarted, connect the USB cable to the scanner. The scanner may initialize at this point. If after 30 seconds the scanner continues to cycle as you described, the that is an indication that there is something that is actively pinging the USB ports causing the scanner to react. If the scanner doesn't continue cycling, then reboot the computer and see if it does it again upon bootup.

Assuming that the scanner continues recycling:
Disconnect all USB devices (except the scanner) from the computer and then restart. If the problem goes away, then one of those devices is the culprit. Connect them one at a time, rebooting each time, to determine which devices is causing the problem. Once you determine the cause, then you'll know where to go for help.

Hope this helps.
