Question about Siemens Dishwashers

Intermittent power supply

This inbuilt unit has suddenly started to have no power when the door is open at certain angles. I have checked the supply to the unit and it is all OK. Do you think that there is a loose connection around the door hinges and if so is this something that can be fixed?

You help is much appreciated.

Thanks for this as it's what I expected to be wrong. However it wasn’t the problem.

I took the machine apart to check which wires were carrying current and they were all dead. Further investigation showed a bizarre problem. The reason the power was going off intermittently was because the wall socket had become stuck to the back of the unit and kept disconnecting with slight movement. The heat of the wash cycle had melted the unit’s insulation onto the plug gluing it in place.

Took a while to fix but at least I saved myself bill for new parts!

Check the wires as they pass out the door. Repeated bending can cause breaks. (sometimes the wires will be separated inside the insulation, making it more difficult to find than if the wire breaks in two)

My kenmore dishwasher wont start at all now. It used to start if you pushed certain buttons a bunch of times but now the lights next to most of the buttons light up but it wont start a cycle. any ideas?

Ensure that the dishwasher is connected to a working power supply. Check the local fuse or circuit breaker and restart as necessary.

Open and shut the door firmly until it latches into place. The dishwasher will not function if the door is not latched into position.

Select the desired cycle and press the cycle button firmly, as you must choose a cycle in order for the dishwasher to begin operation.

Look at the water valve that is connected to the dishwasher and ensure it is turned on.

Turn off the dishwasher and unplug it from the power supply to reset the unit. Plug it back in and select a new cycle. Select "Start." If the dishwasher still does not start, contact an authorized service technician.

Well, you sound like you figured out part of your problem. If the open door symbol is showing, then you need to find out which door the machine thinks its still open.
Check all the doors, front, both right and left doors, and if the machine has a bottom console, then check those doors also.
I would open every door and reclose them again and see if you can get the DOOR OPEN symbol to go away. Need to start with the basic first.
Once this is cleared then we can see if we can troubleshoot any other problems.
(Most doors have a little stub that sticks out that either goes in between a sensor, or pushes on a switch to tell the machine that the door is closed.
If after opening and closing each door, and the machine still says Door open, then Next step I would take is to see if there are any places on the door that looks like a small piece of plastic might have broken off.
Let me know what you find.
Good luck.

In my professional opinion, it sounds like you have a shorted relay or other defective component on your control circuit board, which is actually made by Samsung. We regularly repair these control panel assemblies nationwide for $32.50, so the problem can certainly be fixed economically. Looking at typical microwave wiring shows it has to be the cooking relay or a device that drives that relay. Since it stops when you open the door, we can say the door switches are certainly doing their job.
