Firmware update problem

I downloaded the firmware update 2.0, copied the extracted firmware file F828V2.ash to the root directory of my memory stick, put it in the camera's memory stick slot, turned the camera?s mode-switch to "SETUP", held down the "MENU" button, and switched on the camera (batteriy full, 174min left). and here we go : 1. no message "No file in this folder" on the LCD screen. 2. on the camera-screen-menu, "SETUP 2", there is no "VERSION" entry. i tried with AC power adapter, different memory / pro sticks and compact flash cards, but always the same. what's wrong ?

Re: firmware update problem

Hello! I experienced the same problem. I did not updated the firme ware because my F828 already came with latest version. To view the firmeare information in your camera you must have the AC power adpater conected otherwise it wont show. This is all I know. From here I think you have only to follow the steps of SONY guide. Hope I could help in any way.

Can i update camera firmware through a printer dock?

Kodak does not suggest a firmware upgrade through a printer dock. Instead, they recommend using an SD card (memory card).

First:
  1. Click Download, then save the firmware file to your computer desktop.
  2. Double-click the *.exe file. When the WinZip Self-Extractor screen appears, select a folder or accept the default location, then click Unzip. The firmware file unzips to the specified folder.
  3. Note the location of the *.FW file, then close the WinZip Self-Extractor.
Instructions:
  1. If you have pictures/videos on your camera's internal memory or on the memory card, save them to your computer.
  2. Ensure that your camera batteries are fully charged.
  3. Turn off your camera.
  4. Insert the memory card into your computer or into a card reader attached to your computer.
  5. Verify that the memory card has at least 100 MB free space.
  6. On your computer, select the removable drive associated with the memory card or card reader.
  7. If a System folder does not exist on the memory card, create one. From the removable drive window, select File > New > New Folder, then name the new folder System.
  8. Copy the *.FW file from your computer into the System folder.
  9. Remove the memory card from your computer or card reader, then insert it into your camera.
  10. Turn on your camera, then follow the instructions to begin the firmware upgrade. The upgrade takes approximately two minutes to complete.
  11. When "Upgrade was successful" appears on the LCD, select Delete Upgrade File to delete the firmware file from the memory card.
  12. Turn off your camera, then turn the camera on to activate the new firmware.

Most people find that if they use the internal memory of their camera, they have problems with the memory card. The solution is to erase the internal memory and vow never to use it again. Here's what you need to do now. 1. Download any pics from the internal memory you want to save. Then, with no card in the camera, go into the menu and find "format"(may be called "initialize") and follow the on-screen instructions to erase the internal memory. 2.Download any pics from the memory card. Use a separate card reader if necessary. (You'll find that using a card reader is the best way to download). 3. With the card in the camera and your pics safely downloaded to your computer, do the "format"/"initialize" thing again, this time to the card. Now, everything should work perfectly. typrice_28.jpg

The instructions for firmware downloads for all cameras are very, very specific. Each manufacturer includes the instructions with each download and you must follow them exactly or you end up with a dead camera.

1. Take out the SD card if you have one in the camera.

2. Remove the batteries and leave them out for 24 hours. Put in GOOD batteries and DO NOT PUT THE SD CARD BACK IN THE CAMERA.

3. Power up the camera. See what happens.

I want to extract files from my digital canon rebel camera to my pc

connect the USB cable to the jack on the left side of the camera, and the pc, then turn on the camera. The camera should say 'busy' and if you right click 'start' then 'explore' you should see the camera pop up on the root directory. From there you can copy/cut/paste/delete/whatever. your other option is to use a CF compact flash card reader, take the card out of the camera and stick it in the reader.
