Question about Samsung SyncMaster 930BF 19" LCD Monitor

1 Answer

My screen acts as if it's on energy-saving-mode but doesnt activate...

Had the screen for about 2½ years now. Worked like a charm until a week ago. It sarted acting as if it's on energy-saving-mode. Just that it doesn't activate when I move the mouse etc. Same thing if it does enter energy-saving-mode, it doesnt activate as it should.
Also seems as if the time for it to activate is increasing each time.

Might add that it's like this when I start the computer as well (incl turning the monitor power on). Just a black screen. Only thing that gives away that it isnt shut off is the blinking of the power light. The blinking isn't quite like it is on power-saving-mode though. Seems as if the periods with it lighted up are longer then the periods with it not lighting up.

And like I said before, the time for it to activate increases for each time it's been shut off.

Hi there, I've got the same problems described as above. I've been using my monitor for alittle more than 3 years. At first, the picture will appear after 20 minutes or so, especially when I have switched the settings for the screensaver on window xp. But now it doesn't work at all even if I leave it at that for the entire day.

Same problem, 930BF about 3 and a half years old. For a week or two I had it happen where it would take 10 or more minutes to activate, but now it doesn't come on at all. Unplugging it for a while didn't help, neither did disabling screen saver and idle mode. The other screen on the same computer (different model) works fine.

Check and reset the Screen Saver to the settings you want, even if its set properly. Did this work?

If not, reset the monitor to factory defaults to flush its memory.

If that doesn't work unplug the monitor for a minute and replug.

alastairhaig, Is unit 4 years old? Could be problem with units switch-mode-power-supply if same thing occurs when connected to fully functioning different pc that has all screen saver and power save features disabled. After screen goes "black" do you still see the WIN-desktop screen and icon's if you hold a bright flashlight at different angles about 1 inch from the screen? SEE = power supply in "partial shutdown" mode. NO SEE = smps in "full shutdown" mode. Do some reading in my fixya profile about "black screen of death" repairs. also read FIXYA profiles of "budmrtn" "buddymc" and other fine profiles of technicians here on fixya. satservice, What happens AFTER 15 min of FLASHING?? What did unit do or act like 3-4 weeks ago? Is the screen both BLACK and BLANK? or is screen just black and you can SEE win-desktop if you shine a bright flashlight 1 inch from screen at differnt angles? Can you use your Samsung warranty? Will monitor do same when connected to different KNOWN GOOD prebooted to desktop PC? Are you refering to the "power ON" indicator light on front BEZEL as the FLASHING thing? Need more info, but I suspect "shutdown of units "switch-mode-power-supply" due to detection of FAULT CONDITION having been detected with other circuit or with itself. Read some of my other responses in my fixya profile that deal with BLACK SCREEN repair. If this response useful, rate on fixya. 12fixlouie

nice anecdote, fixing things from far is not easy, a t.v.-technician right in front of the actual screen could tell more- but they don't come for free, alas. hope that people's idea about problem solving lead up to you fixing a problem yourself - hey this here is for free - to sort wxperts, one needs feedback! thx alot

sounds like a slightly damaged power supply. try powering up with an equivalent supply. if only an ac wall cord is plugged in for power, then internal supply is at fault

Hi: For me it seams that the problem is on the graphic board that doesn't have enought energy to send information to the monitor. I sugest that you try another graphic board or another monitor on the same graphic board. ;) Regards
