Question about Arris Wireless G Broadband Router (wr850g)

Belkin Wireless router

I have been trying to set 2 laptops up with this router at home, one seemed to be ok but i made an error with the other. When told to type in the ip address 192.168 etc i typed the wrong number at the end and now it won't allow me to do anything. Keeps telling me it is already under Adminstrator...(and then the wrong ip address). Any help would be greatly appreciated.

thanks

    You'll have to bear with me, not great at all this stuff. Laptops are both still connected via the cable to the ethernet and one was working via this way until i typed in the wrong ending to the ip address - 1.2 instead of 1.1, in the explorer search bar. They both seem to be networked because they both now come up with the error they are already being adminstered by the 1.2 ip address. Until I did this, both lights were on on the router relating to the LAN for each laptop. Hope this makes sense, thanks

    Hi. I have managed to get one laptop to work through the router but still using cables. Wireless does not seem to be working. I am not sure how to check the lan connectivity as suggested. Help.

Hi,

Based on your post,

  • the two laptops are wired to the router;
  • the router lights for each Ethernet connection is lit indicating connection.
Proposed course of action to be done to both laptops:
  1. Goto Start, Control Panel, Network Connections, Right click on "Local Area Connection", click on properties;
  2. Scroll down to "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)) and highlight it;
  3. click on Properties button;

If you jest type an IP address in explorer you do not change any settings. The fact that you typed wrong ip address in IE bar it is probably ininfluent.

Start checking network cables to the router.
Swap cables on router internet ports.
Ensure that you fully configured the router.

My suggestiong is calling your Internet Service provider phone number, often this is toll free or local call rate.
The technical service will follow you at the phone in step-by - step network configuration.

Tell us what internet service you have to get the phone number, or check the letters and emails that came with the broadband, and broadband company website.

I woud suggest to restore the machine to a point prior to your attempt to set it up, and putting in the number incorrectly. Have you tried this?

    (General procedures for setting up a wireless network - it is not really a difficult procedure - establish the router protocol, give your network a name & encryption code, set up the connection on each machine with the same settings you gave the router, make sure each connection works!!)

    I think it will be much easier for you to reset the router by pressing the reset button for 10 seconds so the router will be back to its deafult settings and just start from there...

Hi - I recently set the security on my router but am having trouble connecting to wireless on my home laptop. All other devices seem to be ok (2 work laptops, IPad, Ipod) and I get a message saying that...

This error message usually occurs in windows vista & win7 if the settings saved on the computer doesnt matches with the settings in the router...
You can get rid of this message by deleting the list of preferred networks from your computer...
To delete the preferred networks, follow the method given below...
Open control panel > open Network & Internet(double click) > open Network & Sharing center(double click)
On the far hand side left you will have an option called "Manage wireless networks" If you click that, you will see the list of preferred networks that are already saved in your computer... Now select your network, make a right click and select "Remove network" Select "ok" for all the warnings...
Thats it..! you are done..! Now search for the list of available wireless networks in range, you must be able to see your network name without any error mesages... Select your network and click connect, it will ask for the network key(if you have setup one)... Enter the key and get connected...! You must be able to go online now..!

Laptop stopped connecting via wifi to home network.

The wireless settings in the Belkin has been setup with encryption.
You can restore the Belkin back to the factory default by powering up the Belkin and press the RESET button for 7 secs.
It is not wise to leave your wireless router unsecured, anyone can access your network and Internet connection and use up your allocated download limit. Once you exceed your download limit you could be slug with addition charges - this depends upon your contract with your ISP.

Getting disconnected

Check the wireless access points around your area/home, see if they are broadcasting on the same channel as your router, if so change yours to a different unused channel.

Wireless modem not connecting to everything on the network

this sounds as if either the router is not set at enable DHCP which gives your pc's and x box an automatic assigned ip address, so check in the routers settings via your web browser that DHCP is enabled, also go to your wireless network card and go to the properties, select the TCP/IP line, click properties again and make sure automatically obtain ip address is ticked, ok and close window. Do the same with the Xbox in the network settings and make sure that automatically obtain ip address is highlighted and automatic DNS is set. Lastly make sure non of the pc's network setup is set in a way that other pc's connect to the internet through this computer type set up, they should all be set up using the network wizard using the 'this computer connects to the internet through a gateway' setup, which is your router, but if your laptop is Vista, then everything should have set up automatically when a connection to your router was found. Lokk in the routers DHCP clients and look to see if all your pc's and the Xbox is listed and given IP addresses.
